Purpose of the system manual
The system manual explains connecting up and commissioning the passive Industrial
Ethernet network components and how they work in principle.
Orientation in the documentation

Introduction
This section describes how to use the IE FC stripping tool.
You should also refer to the instructions in the user guide supplied with the IE FC Stripping
Tool.
CAUTION
Incorrect usage
The IE FC Stripping Tool is approved only for stripping SIMATIC NET Industrial Ethernet
FastConnect cables. If used elsewhere, accidents may occur or tools and cable may be
irreparably damaged.
Under no circumstances use the tool on live cables.
Personnel qualification requirements
Qualified personnel as referred to in these operating instructions or in the warning notes are
defined as persons who are familiar with the installation, assembly, startup and operation of
this product and who possess the relevant qualifications for their work.
IE FC stripping tool
With the IE FC stripping tool, the outer jacket and shield of IE FC cables can be stripped to
the correct length. The IE FC cable prepared in this way is connected to the plug or to the
outlet using installation-piercing contacts. There are two blade cassettes for the IE FC
stripping tool with different knife distances. The IE FC stripping tool is supplied with the
yellow blade cassette.
Note
Notes on using the IE FC stripping tool
The insulation-piercing contacts of the plug or the outlet can be released and recontacted
up to 10 times.
Once the ends of cables have made contact, do not make contact with them again but cut
them off.
Replace the knife cassette if the cut is not clean or after stripping approximately
– 1500 operations on cables with PVC outer jackets.
– 150 operations on cables with PUR outer jackets.

Procedure
1. Fit the required knife cassette in the
stripping tool.
2. After reassembling the knife
cassette, adjust the cutting depth
with the socket head screw.
3. Take the stripping tool in your right
hand.
4. Measure the cable length by placing
the cable on the template. Use the
index finger of your left hand as the
limit stop.
5. Fit the measured end of the cable in
the stripping tool. Limit stop for the
cable length is the index finger of
your left hand.

6. Clamp the stripping tool as far as it
will go.
7. To strip the insulation, turn the tool
in the direction of the arrow
– approx. 4 times for PVC
insulation
– approx. 8 times for PUR
insulation
8. Keeping the it closed, pull the
stripping tool with jacket and
remnants of the shield off the end of
the cable.
If the cutting result is poor, change
the knife cassette.
9. After releasing the tool, remove the
remnants of the cable from the tool.
10. If the white filler is not removed with
the insulation, remove it with your
hand.
11. The protective foil is easier to
remove if you score it between the
wires with a screwdriver.
12. Pull the protective foil off the wires. 13. When assembling the cable, follow
the installation instructions supplied
with your connector or outlet.
14. Replace the knife cassette after
approx:
– 1500 operations on cables with
PVC outer jackets
– 150 operations on cables with
PUR outer jackets
