1. Before using the machine

Thank you for choosing the Xerox 4112/4127 Copier/Printer. This

guide describes procedures for PostScript®Driver Library

software, and the preparation to use them for printing. Before

using the product, read this guide carefully and make sure that

you are using it correctly.

The descriptions in this guide assume that users are familiar with

their computer environments (either the Microsoft®Windows®

operating system or the Macintosh™) and with the procedures for

using the Xerox 4112/4127 Copier/Printer.

Refer to this guide as necessary to maximize the usefulness and

performance of this product.

Conventions

This section describes the conventions used throughout this

guide.

Symbols

CAUTION: This symbol alerts you to an action that may cause

damage to hardware, software, or result in the loss of data.

WARNING: Warnings mark alert users to areas of the machine

where there is a possibility of personal injury.

WARNING: This symbol identifies an area on the machine that is

HOT and should not be touched.

WARNING: This symbol indicates a laser is being used in the

machine and alerts you to refer to the appropriate safety

information.

KEY POINT: This symbol identifies information that is being

emphasized and is important for you to remember.

The 1 2 3... symbol indicates the beginning of a task or work

process you should use to complete a procedure and is followed

by the first step of a numbered procedure, task, or work process.

NOTE: This symbol calls your attention to information that is

helpful, but not essential to complete a procedure or task.

This symbol indicates that there is additional information from

another source, such as a web site or manual.

1. Before using the machine

Terminology

In this guide you will find that some terms are used

interchangeably:

• Paper is synonymous with media.

• Document is synonymous with original.

• Xerox 4112/4127 Copier/Printer is synonymous with the

machine.

Orientation

Orientation is used to mean the direction of images on the page.

When the image is upright, the paper (or other media) can be

either long edge feed or short edge feed.

Long Edge Feed (LEF)

When loading documents long edge feed into the document

feeder, load with one of the long edges facing into the document

feeder. The short edges appear at the top and bottom of the

paper, facing the front and back of the document feeder. When

loading paper long edge feed into a paper tray, place the paper

with one of the long edges on the left-hand side and one of the

short edges toward the front of the tray.

Short Edge Feed (SEF)

When loading documents short edge feed into the document

feeder, load with one of the short edges facing into the document

feeder. The long edges appear on the top and bottom of the paper,

facing the front and back of the document feeder. When loading

paper short edge feed into a paper tray, place the paper with one

of the short edges on the left-hand side and one of the long edges

toward the front of the tray.

Writing style conventions

•Bold type indicates the name of a button to press or touch.

• Underlining is used to emphasize a word or term.

•Italic type is used for the text associated with symbols such as

Notes to visually bring the information to your attention.

•Italic type is also used to indicate names, such as the name of

a chapter, or the name of a screen.

• Procedures direct you to press buttons located on the Control

Panel, and touch buttons located on the Touch Screen.

• Text referring to illustrations or screen samples precedes the

image.

• Text in [Square Brackets]: Indicate that these are names of

the screens, tabs, buttons, features and option categories on

the screen. They are also used when referring to file and folder

names on a computer.

For example:

• Click [Browse] to specify a folder on the CD-ROM.

• Click [Have Disk].

Prerequisite knowledge

This guide assumes that the operator has a basic knowledge of

the operating environment of the personal computer in use,

networking environments, and how to operate a personal

computer.

For details about the environment of the personal computer in

use, basic knowledge of networking environments, and how to

operate a personal computer, refer to the user guides provided

with the personal computer, operating system, and network

system.
