Lens Option for KCM-5111: Vari-Focal PLEN-0202 with

Manual Iris

Contents

Introduction

Lens PLEN-0202 Performance with KCM-5111

Introduction

KCM-5111 is an attractive indoor box camera

because of its excellent 4-Megapixel video quality.

Although KCM-5111 comes with the bundled fix

lens (2.8mm/F2.0, 82.59 °) and although it

supports a powerful P-Iris vari-focal lens, we have

still received so many requests for one more lens

option –a vari-focal lens with manual iris with

the range of focal length that would perfectly fit for

indoor applications.

Manual iris would be attractive for two reasons:

1. since the indoor lighting conditions are usually very stable and sufficient, there iris does

not need to be controlled automatically, which leaves the option of having either cost

efficient manual or fixed iris

2. by having the manual iris it is possible to take a good use of proper lighting conditions

and reduce the size of the iris as much as possible in order to gain the longest possible

depth of field (the area in the field of view where every object is in clear focus). As the

ideal concept of security surveillance requires everything in the field of view to be in

focus, therefore it is much easier to reach the ideal depth of field by using a manual iris

lens.

Changeable focal length would be attractive for following reasons:

1. You don’t need to worry about purchasing the lens with wrong viewing angle - you can

fine tune the viewing angle of the lens after the installation of the camera depending on

the location of the camera, size of the room, region of interest, etc.

2. One vari-focal lens covers a wide range of applications, from corner installations

(requiring at least 90 degrees of horizontal viewing angle for one camera to cover the

whole room) to close lookup cameras (to get clear details over longer distance).

Since the customers have been urgently requesting for vari-focal manual iris lens support for

KCM-5111, ACTi support engineers have conducted a brief testing of one of the existing

optional lenses and the results are introduced below.

Video quality of KCM-5111 while using PLEN-0202:

As a result of our tests, we were impressed by the sharpness and long depth of field that

was achieved by PLEN-0202 lens. Please note that we used 1080p resolution and H.264 in

KCM-5111 to conduct this test. Actually this camera can be used even with 4-Megapixel

resolution for even more details.
