Combo Card Installation (continued)

Combo Card Installation

Before You Begin:

Please read this manual thoroughly before attempting to install

this device. Installation of this device requires you to open your

computer and insert the device into a PCI slot on the

motherboard. If you do not feel comfortable or are unable to

perform the tasks described in this manual, contact a qualified

computer specialist to have the device installed professionally.

You Will Need:

• Phillips screwdriver

• Static ground strap (recommended)

• Windows®98/98 SE/2000/Me CD-ROM (may not be

required)

1. Turn the computer off and

disconnect all devices and cables.

Static electricity can damage computer components. If not

using a static ground strap, be sure to touch any bare metal

surface of your computer case to discharge yourself of any

static electricity before touching the FireWire/USB Combo Card

or any electronics inside of your computer case.

2. Open the case of your

computer by removing

the cover. Refer to your

computer user manual

for details on how to

do this.

3. Locate a free PCI slot in your computer, or remove the

PCI card that you will replace with the Belkin

FireWire/USB Combo Card. If not already removed,

remove the metal plate that covers the rear bracket

corresponding to the PCI slot you have chosen.

Combo Card Installation (continued)

4. Remove the FireWire/USB Combo Card from the protective

anti-static bag. Handle the card only by the metal bracket

and the edges of the board. Avoid touching the gold edge

connectors. Insert the card into the PCI slot, carefully

aligning the rear bracket to the computer case. Press firmly

on the Firewire/USB Combo Card to be sure the card is

fully inserted into the PCI slot. The bracket should be

resting on the top of the computer case with the screw

holes lined up.

Combo Card Installation (continued)

5. Fasten the card securely, using the same screw that was

holding the bracket or old PCI card in place.

6. Replace the cover of your computer case.

Combo Card Installation (continued)Combo Card Installation (continued)

7. Reconnect all of your devices and cables to your computer.

However, do not connect anything to the FireWire ports of

your new Belkin FireWire/USB Combo Card. Once this is

done, turn on your computer.

8. When Windows starts, you will see the "Add New

Hardware Wizard". It will detect the IEEE 1394

OHCI-Compliant Host Controller. Click "Next".

9. A window will pop-up giving you a choice of where to look

for drivers for the new device. Select "Display a list of all

the drivers in specific location, so you can select the driver

you want". Click "Next".

10. A list of drivers will appear in a window. Select "NEC

Firewarden OHCI Compliant 1394 Host Controller"

11. A window will now appear stating "Windows driver file

search for the device". Click "Next".

12. Windows may prompt you to insert the Windows CD-ROM.

Please be prepared to insert this CD-ROM into the CD-

ROM drive of you computer. Click "Next".

13. Once the drivers are found and installed, Windows will tell

you it has finished installing the software for the device.

Click "Finish".

14. Next, Windows will detect the presence of the USB PCI

Host Controller that is built into the FireWire/USB Combo

Card. Detection and installation should be automatic. If

not, continue to click "Next" as Windows prompts you as it

progresses and installs the USB Host Controller.

The installation of the PCI card is now complete. You may

now proceed to install the MGI video editing and capture

software. Once the installation is complete, refer to the MGI

documentation provided on the CD-ROM to learn how to

begin capturing and editing video.
