Important Safety Information
Safety Definitions
The following Caution and Warning definitions are intended to advise the driver when it is
safe to use the mobile display unit (MDT).
CAUTION indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, may result in
minor or moderate injury. It may also be used to alert against unsafe practices.
WARNING indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result in
death or serious injury.
Safety Advice
The following Safety Advice is provided for drivers and installers who use and/or locate all
types of mobile display units (MDT’s).
If you are a Driver, do not use a mobile display unit (MDT) when the vehicle is in motion.
If you are an Installer, do not locate the mobile display unit (MDT), including third-party
devices, where it obstructs the driver’s field of vision, distracts the driver from the driving task,
or interferes with the driver’s operation of controls or displays. The following label is to be
posted in clear view for the driver to see.
WARNING!
Driver – Do not use while the vehicle is in motion
Use of mobile display unit while driving will cause distraction and
loss of vehicle control which may lead to serious injury or death.

• Provides two-way, mobile messaging with unlimited data communication.
• Provides vehicle location and performance data including, hours of service, truck-
based navigation, load assignments, job requirements and fuel management.
What are the benefits of the CarrierMate"
• Companies can maintain two-way contact with their vehicles and drivers 24 hours a
day.
• CarrierMate"has a continuous connection to the CarrierWeb website to send and
receive information such as job orders, trip data, text messages, GPS positions and
fuel consumption data.
• Driver managers now have a quick and easy overview of their fleet. By constantly
knowing where the trucks are, the CarrierMate"helps avoid unnecessary driving.
• By tracking engine working hours and idling, the CarrierMate"device can help drivers
better manage the way they drive, reduce losses and maximize the company’s profits.
• Dispatchers can send pickup and delivery information directly to drivers, keeping
vehicles on the road.
• Drivers can inform the dispatcher of road conditions or problems.
• Over-the-air firmware upgrades allow drivers to remain on the road rather than having
to stop.
• CarrierMate"offers enhanced capabilities, such as touchscreen and color graphics
for an easy to understand user interface which reduces training time.
• CarrierMate"has an integrated ELD/EOBR solution that allows all driver activities be
timed to the minute reducing errors by the driver, increasing drive time, and allowing
up to the minute knowledge of available hours prior to job assignment.

Data Messaging and GPS Positioning
Data Messaging
• Uses cellular communication
• Sends messages to the driver
• Receives messages from dispatch
What is the GPS Network?
• A satellite-based navigation system made up of a network of 24 satellites placed into
orbit by the U.S. Department of Defense.
• Uses satellites as reference points to calculate positions accurate to a matter of
meters.
• Originally intended for military applications.
• A standard feature of the CarrierMate".
How the CarrierMate"uses GPS
• The CarrierMate"receives positioning data from the GPS receiver, which is integrated
inside the antenna to determine location.
• CarrierMate"position data is tracked minute by minute.
• The minute-by-minute position information is transmitted from the CarrierMate"to the
CarrierWeb server by cellular communication.
• CarrierMate"sends an automatic alert or warning when an event specified by you
occurs and/or a threshold is exceeded.
What is the CarrierMate"?
• Mobile display unit (MDT) for tracking your fleet using the CarrierWeb#platform.
• Provides the driver with the ability to communicate with dispatch.
• Sends position data to CarrierWeb.com
• Electronic logging device (ELD)
• Tracks your engines working hours, driving hours and idling.
• CarrierMate"user, typically the driver, uses the display screen for creating, sending,
and reading messages; system verification; and troubleshooting.
• Consists of these components:
o Mobile display terminal (MDT) – Seven-inch color touchscreen LCD display unit,
which the driver uses to interact with the dispatcher.
o CarrierMate"SD card, 8GB Ultra, Class 10
o Sim card

Troubleshooting Guidelines
Keep Working CarrierMate
"
Component Spares in Shop
Spare parts should include:
• MDT 5700
• Testing power cable w/ ignition switch
• AC to 12v DC Wall Adapter, 5AMP
• Antenna
• CANbus cable 6 pin
• CANbus cable 9 pin
• OBDII cable (For Volvo/Mack trucks 2014 or newer)
• CANbus D-hole Adapter
• MDT Mounting bracket
• SD card, 8GB Ultra, Class 10
• SD card reader for PC
Create a Driver Log-in for Maintenance
• See your companies CarrierWeb Admin to have a driver log-in created to be used for
testing and diagnostics.
Use a Testing Power Cable with the AC to 12v Wall adapter
If a CarrierMate"is diagnosed bad on a truck, plug it in with a Testing power cable using the
AC to 12v Wall adapter.
• If it continues to fail, contact CarrierWeb Client Support for further troubleshooting.
• If it does not fail with the Test power cable, further troubleshoot truck connections.
Perform a Visual Inspection of the Installed CarrierMate
"
• Check for damaged cables, improper grounds, improper electrical connections, loose
connectors, and the integrity of the installation.
• Airadams with multiple layers of fiberglass, metallic logos, or metallic/lead based
paints, and other devices such as metal wings can affect system performance.
• Bad or improper mounts can contribute to system problems.
• Loose antenna connections or an antenna not installed properly can allow excessive
vibration which can affect system performance.

Reseat All Cables
• Always inspect and reseat cable connectors prior to replacing any components.(
• Inspect for corrosion and bent, broken, pushed, slices or missing pins.(
Verify the MDM, GPRS and CAN light Are Lit
• MDM LED above the F1 is lit
• GPRS LED above the F2 is lit
• CAN LED above the F3 is lit
Soft Reset
If the CarrierMate™ is not responding, seems frozen or running slow, a soft reset will
generally resolve this. The reset button is the small hole on the right side panel of the device.
Replace Only Faulty Parts
Typically, only one part is bad. Once the system is operating, you can substitute suspect
parts back into the system to verify which part is bad.
Install Parts Correctly
Refer to the CarrierMate"Installation section
Determine If the Problem Is Intermittent
• Bad or loose electrical connections including cable connectors, terminals and
power/ground connections can contribute to intermittent system performance.
• Cables that are subject to harsh weather and/or road debris can impact performance.

What Is a Basic CarrierMate
"
System Verification?
• A functional system check that should be performed after Installation, and Install
mode has been completed to verify that the CarrierMate"is operating properly.
CarrierMate
"
Status Screen
• Shortly after you log-in to the CarrierMate", the Home Screen displays.
• Tap the Tools icon.
• Then tap the Status tab for system verification.
• Verify Modem State is Online and GPS is Fix.
• Verify Ignition is On when the truck is running with an RPM above 400.
