SECTION 1
OVERVIEW
The Digital Dialer interface option allows the SYSTEM 3000 to receive alarms through the dial
up telephone network. The dialer option software provides conversion of coded information
from the receiver into the proper format for processing by the SYSTEM 3000.
The DDI-8 is a plug-in PC card that is added to the SYSTEM 3000 card rack. The dialer option
must be installed in the SYSTEM 3000 before any DDI-8 cards can be installed in the unit. The
SYSTEM 3000 has up to eight card slots available for various options, including the DDI-8.
The System 3000 will accept up to four telephone lines conveniently, (one line per DDI-8 card.)
Consult the factory to expand the unit beyond four DDI-8 cards.
The DIGITIZE plug in receiver card (DDI-8 P/N 400502-0001) will accept any pulsed dialer
rate from 10 to 40 (37) PPS using the 3-1, 3-1 extended, 4-1, 4-1 extended and 4-2 formats. The
DDI-8 will decode dialers that respond with a data tone rate in 1400 and 2300 Hertz. The
following dialer formats are supported by the DDI-8:
A - Silent Knight/Ademco slow, 10 BPS 3/1, 4/1, 4/2, non-extended format
B - Silent Knight fast, 20 BPS 3/1, 4/1, 4/2, non-extended format
C - Silent Knight/Ademco slow 10 BPS 3/1, extended format
D - Silent Knight/Ademco fast 20 BPS 3/1, extended format
E - Sescoa, Franklin, DCI, Vertex, 20 BPS 3/1, 4/1, 4/2, non-extended format
F - Sescoa, Franklin, DCI, Vertex, 20 BPS 3/1, extended format
G - Radionics 3/1, 4/2, non-extended format
H - Radionics 3/1, 4/2, non-extended with parity format
I - Radionics 3/1, extended format
J - Radionics 3/1, extended with parity format
The following dialers have been tested and are known to work with the DDI-8:
Scantronics Model DD-3E (compatible to A, B, C, D)
Radionics Model D2071 DACT (compatible to H)
Radionics Model 8112DG2 (compatible to A, C, E)
FBI Legend Star XL4500 (compatible to G, H, I, J)
Silent-Knight Model 5104 (compatible to I)
Silent Knight Model 1420 (compatible to A, E, G)
Silent Knight Model 1400, 4 channel (compatible to A, E, G)
Fire Lite Notifier Model 911A (compatible to H)
DSC Model PC2500 (compatible to A, B,C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J)
NOTE: For additional compatible dialers, refer to dialer manufacturer's Installation Instructions.

DDI-8 INSTALLATION AND OPERATION MANUAL
WARNING ! There are many variations of generic dialer format. Due to the lack
of industry standards governing Digital Dialer decoding, the Customer must
thoroughlytestandverifytheproperoperationofeverydialerconnectedtotheSystem
3000. Digitize, Inc. did not rely on Manufacturer’s information regarding their
protocols when developing the DDI-8 interface. A Manufacturer may have made
changes to protocols without our knowledge. Digitize, Inc. is not responsible for
incompatible dialer formats.
The DDI-8 card processes dialer Alarm, Trouble and Restore conditions. The SYSTEM 3000
displays and prints the incoming DDI-8 signals. The user can specify Restoral = Yes or No for
each account number. After an alarm or trouble condition appears, the CLEAR button will
blink if an invalid account number comes through or if Restoral = N for that account number.
In this instance the operator can hit the CLEAR button when the light is blinking and the
condition will be cleared. If the dialer has a restoral feature, the user would select Restoral = Y,
and the dialer would send a restoral automatically.
If an abnormal condition occurs (i.e. the dialer is reset and no restoral will be received) the
operator may also clear the condition as follows: While the dialer message is on the display,
press DIALER LOOK UP. While the display reads “DD xxx-x pg. 1”, press CLEAR to
remove the dialer Alarm or Trouble condition.
If the Alarm monitoring location subscribes to Caller ID, the following information is printed
after the first ring is received.
CALL ID - Area Code -Phone Number
Date - Time
If the Caller ID information is being blocked by the calling party, the following information
will print:
CALL ID - Blocked
Date- Time
If the calling party is out of the Caller ID service area, the following information will be printed:
CALL ID - Out of Area
Date - Time
Information regarding Caller ID availability in your area can be obtained from your local
telephone carrier.
NOTE: During System Initialization the following message may appear:
UPDATE DIALER
USER TEXT I.E.
123-8 TO 123-08
1=YES 2=NO ENTR
This message appears only if the System 3000 finds data in the one digit (123-8) format. When
the operator selects ‘1’, the System 3000 will automatically convert the information to the two
digit (123-08) format.

SECTION 2
DDI-8 SWITCH SETTINGS
The DDI-8 has five field addressable switch settings to designate dialer board numbers. The
switches operate on binary code system. The DDI-8 ( System 3000 ) will recognize any number
from one to 31. Do not use zero!
For example, to designate the DDI-8 board as No. 12, turn both SW3 and SW4 to OFF. SW3 = 4
and SW4 = 8. SW3 (4) + SW4 (8) = Board Number (12). Do not duplicate board numbers!
Each card should be assigned a different number. Refer to the table below:
Table 7.2 (b)- DDI-8 Switch Settings (With CPU VI)
Switch
Number When ‘ON’ When ‘OFF’
7 Enables full diagnostic test Partial diagnostic test
6 Must be ON Not applicable
1 - 5 Card address 1 - 1FH (as needed)
Note: The digit ‘1’ indicates an ‘ON’ switch.
CAUTION ! If you are using a network with several DDI-8 cards it is imperative
that you do NOT duplicate card numbers in any SYSTEM 3000.
Switch number 6 is used to select the DDI-7/8 mode. On SYSTEM 3000 units with Program
S600 Standard 6 software version or higher, the factory default setting for SW6 is ON. (For
units with other software versions or CPU V refer to Section 4 Retrofits.)
Switch number 7 is reserved for system self-test. The DDI-8 default setting is OFF, (enabling
the partial diagnostic test mode.) If SW7 is changed to ON, the full diagnostic test mode is
enabled. Refer to table below.
