This installation manual provides the information required to install,

program, troubleshoot and maintain a GCL-LT operator.

For use only on the following types of doors:

• Sectional Doors - Standard Lift

The included Safe-T-Beam®system, or other monitored safety device UL 325 Listed for use on this model,

MUST be installed to close the door. DO NOT use other brands or types of monitored entrapment.

SAFETY & STANDARD FEATURES

• Places an infrared beam across the door opening.

• Only aects the DOWN travel of the door.

• Stops an open door from closing or reverses a door while in the down travel.

• Reversing system can be overridden with constant pressure on the wired wall console only.

• The door will stop and reverse to the full open position if beam is obstructed.

• Self-diagnostic LEDs on STBs and Powerhead alert to operational issues (See Locating Safe-T-Beam® Pairs &

Troubleshooting section in this manual for more information).

• Automatically reverses a closing door upon contact with an obstruction (Force Control)

• Manually releases door from door opener. Used during a power failure or other emergency to allow manual

opening and closing of the door.

• DO NOT use emergency release cord to pull the door!

4.AutomaticLightingSystem:

• Lighting system turns ON when door is activated and automatically turns OFF 4 minutes later.

• Can be activated/deactivated manually from the wall console.

5.GenieBatteryBackup(BBU):

• Included or optional with select models. Provides power to opener in the event of a power failure. DO NOT

install BBU until opener is fully installed, programmed and tested.

6.IntegratedAladdinConnect®(iDCM):

• Available with select models, allows operation of the garage door opener with a secure mobile device

application (app) from anywhere.

7.WallConsole:

• Wired Wall Console included with select models. Operates door opener from inside garage with an open/

close button. Has a light manual control and override. Sure-lock™ security activate switch to lock out all

remote control operation.

• Wireless Wall Console included with select models. Operates door opener from inside garage with an

open/close button. Has a light manual control and override. Features a 10 second delay button

8.Intellicode®Encryption,FactoryProgrammedRemote(s):

• An encryption system that enhances the security of the door opener by continuously changing the access

code each time the remote is used.

Check working condition of door before installing the operator. Door must be free from sticking and

binding. If equipped, deactivate any door locking device(s). Door repairs and adjustments, including

cables and spring assemblies MUST be made by a trained service representative using proper tools and

instructions.

Job Site Considerations

The following list of items should be evaluated prior to selecting an operator for a given job site.

1. Available 120 VAC 1A power source.

2. Type of door.

3. Potential operator mounting obstructions. Items to consider include, but are not limited to room above

door shaft, room below door shaft, available mounting surface integrity, power source location, and

convenient release cable positioning.

4. Size of door for appropriate operator torque and door travel speed selection.

5. Operator mounting environment. Items to consider include operator location, dampness of location,

dustiness of the location and corrosiveness of the location.

6. Accessory equipment. Examples include type of monitored safety device, radio controls, push button

stations, wireless/wired keypads.

When replacing the cover, make sure wires are not pinched or near moving

parts.

Do Not try to remove, repair or adjust springs or anything to which door

spring parts are fastened, such as wood block, steel bracket, cable or any

other structure or like item.

Repairs and adjustments must be made by trained service representative

using proper tools and instructions.

Garage Doors are large, heavy objects that move with the help of springs under high tension and electric

motors. Since moving objects, springs under tension, and electric motors can cause injury, your safety and

the safety of others depend on you reading the information in this manual. If you have any questions or

In this manual the words Danger, Warning, and Caution are used to stress important safety information.

The word:

DANGER indicates an imminently hazardous situation which, if not avoided, will result in death or

serious injury.

WARNING indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result in death or

serious injury.

CAUTION indicates potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, may result in injury or

property damage.

The word NOTE,is used to indicate important steps to be followed or important considerations.

SAFETY INFORMATION AND INSTRUCTIONS

1. Read manual and warnings carefully.

2. Keep the door in good working condition. Periodically lubricate all moving parts of door.

3. If door has a sensing edge, check operations monthly. Make any necessary repairs to keep it functional.

4. AT LEAST twice a year, manually operate the door by disconnecting it from the operator with the door in the

closed position. The Door should open and close freely. If it does not, the door must be taken out of service and

a trained service representative must correct the condition causing the malfunction.

5. This operator motor is protected against overheating by limiting the number of cycles that can be run within

a specied period. Once the cycle limit has been exceeded, the controls will disable motor operation until the

motor cools down. The operator will automatically resume normal function once this occurs.

6. In case of power failure, the door can be operated manually by pulling the release cable to disconnect the

operator drive system. The door should be in the closed position before pulling the release cable whenever possible.

7. Keep instructions in a prominent location near the pushbutton.

IMPORTANT INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

WARNING

To reduce the risk of severe injury or death:

1. READ AND FOLLOW ALL INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS.

2. Install only on a properly operating and balanced garage door. An improperly balanced door has the potential

to inict severe injury. Have a qualied service person make repairs to cables, spring assemblies, and other

hardware before installing the operator.

Remove all pull ropes and remove, or make inoperative, all locks connected to the garage

door before installing the operator.

4. Where possible, install the door operator 2.14 m (7 ft) or more above the oor. For products having an

emergency release, mount the emergency release within reach, but at least 1.83 m (6 ft) above the oor and

avoiding contact with vehicles to avoid accidental release.

5. Do not connect the door operator to source of power until instructed to do so.

6. Locate the control button: (a) within sight of the door, (b) at a minimum height of 1.53 m (5 ft) above oors,

landings, steps or any other adjacent walking surface so small children are not able to reach it, and (c) away

from all moving parts of the door.

7. Install the Entrapment Warning Label next to the control button in a prominent location. Install the Emergency

Release Marking. Attach the marking on or next to the emergency release.

8. After installing the operator, the door must reverse when it contacts a 38-mm (1-1/2-inch) high

object (or a 2 by 4 board laid at) on the oor.

9. For products having a manual release, instruct the end user on the operation of the manual release.

ENTRAPMENT PROTECTION:

The installation of a monitored fail-safe external reversing device is required on all momentary contact

electronically operated commercial doors. If such a reversing device is not installed, the operator will

revert to a constant contact control switch for close operation.

There are a few specic areas which might require extra materials:

This operator includes parts and supplies needed for installation in most garages and on most garage doors.

There are many variations of garages and garage doors. A few additional parts and supplies may be needed

for installation in your garage and to your garage door. While going over these instructions, please note the

additional items you may need. For help nding a local Genie® Professional Dealer, refer to the dealer locator

at www.GenieCompany.com or call Customer Service at 1-800-35-GENIE.

• The header above the garage door where torsion springs are used Does it extend

far enough above the spring(s) to allow mounting of the header bracket? If not, or if you can’t

tell, you will probably need a piece of 2”x 6”lumber to span across wall studs.

• The area overhead where the operator will be mounted: if you have a nished

ceiling, you will need perforated angle which can span across beams or trusses.

• Is there wood along the door tracks near the oor where the Safe-T-Beam® can be

most easily mounted, or will you need fasteners or some other material for mounting to the track

itself? Will you need extension brackets or wooden blocks to extend the Safe-T-Beam far enough o

the wall to see past any door hardware?

•

Does the application require permanent wiring installed to the operator? If so, see optional permanent input

wiring installation section.

• Is there an electrical outlet within approximately 6’of the point where the operator will be? If

not, you need to contact a licensed electrician to install an outlet.

• Check condition of the door and all its associated hardware: Tracks, springs, hinges, rollers.

Is anything loose or appear to be worn? If so, have the door serviced by a trained professional.

ASSEMBLY & INSTALLATION OF OPERATOR

PRE- INSTALLATION CONSIDERATIONS

1. Flip rail over and slide drive gear over motor shaft.

2. Install rail brackets onto rail and secure to

operator with 1/4”- 14 - 5/8”screws. Do not over-tighten.
