Introduction

The objective of this document is to help Hewlett-Packard customers install IBM OS/2 Warp

Server for e-business on a HP NetServer system. For additional information on Hewlett-Packard

NetServers refer to the HP Information Assistant on the HP NetServer Navigator CD-ROM.

It is critical to know which disk adapters or disk array adapter are in the system before you start

the installation. The tables in the Appendix will help you identify what adapter is implemented or

embedded on the system board for each HP NetServer.

NOTE: The IBM OS/2 Warp Server for e-business is not supported on the HP NetServer

E series (E 30, E 40, E 45, E 50, and E 60).

Installation Procedure: OS/2 Warp Server for e-business

Requirements

•Driver's Diskette for OS/2 Warp Server for e-business created from the HP NetServer

Navigator CD diskette library.

•OS/2 Warp Server for e-business CD

•Installation diskettes (to create installation diskettes from OS/2 CD insert you OS/2 CD in the

CD-ROM drive and type CDINST).

NOTE: I2O Mode is not supported by IBM OS/2 operating system, If there is a NetRAID

adapter in the system set the NetRAID mode to Mass-Storage using Set Class utility or

NetRAID's utility (Ctrl+M) before installing OS/2.

Creating the HP Drivers/Utilities Diskette

The "Drivers/Utilities" diskette is referred to in the HP NetServer Navigator CD-ROM and other

HP documentation as the "Drivers Diskette." The purpose of this diskette is to accomplish the

following three tasks:

Task 1) To backup one (or more) of your OS/2 installation diskettes. For OS/2 Warp and later

products, only Diskette 1 is backed up. We will refer to this backup copy of OS/2 Diskette 1 as

the "Work Diskette 1". When you install OS/2, you will use the backup copies in place of the

original diskettes that came in the OS/2 box.

Task 2) Identify the unused drivers on "Work Diskette 1" to make room for new drivers. Delete

the unwanted drivers from the "Work Diskette 1".

Task 3) Identify the required drivers for the system. Based on the boot setup. The following

drivers may be needed. Example:

AIC7870.ADD

SYM_HI.ADD

MRAID.ADD

Make a list of drivers that are needed and order them based on boot priority.

Task 4) Create the HP Drivers/Utility Diskette by stepping through one of the following

procedures. There are two ways to create the drivers diskette.

•Procedure One: Uses the OS/NOS icon section of the Navigator CD-ROM.

•Procedure Two: Uses the "Library diskette" section of the Navigator CD-ROM.

Procedure One

1. Boot the system from the HP Navigator CD-ROM.

2. From the Main Menu, select "Configuration Assistant and Installation Assistant".

3. Select Custom.

4. Select OS/2.

5. From the menu, select the version of OS/2 that you want to Install.

6. Read the information provided on the "Configuration Advisor" panel. Save the

information to a floppy diskette if you desire.

7. Select Continue.

8. From the "Custom Configuration" menu select "Create Drivers Diskette".

9. Label a blank diskette "HP NetServer IBM OS/2 Warp Drivers/Utilities Diskette".

Insert this diskette in drive A and select "Execute".

10. Remove the HP Navigator CD-ROM. Keep the newly created "Drivers/Utilities"

diskette in the floppy drive

11. Click on Exit. Select Yes to reboot system. Continue to Task 5.

Procedure Two

This is an alternate procedure for creating the "Drivers/Utilities" diskette using a section

called "Diskette Library" on the Navigator CDROM.

Keep in mind that if you need high resolution video, you will need to create additional video

drivers diskettes.

Use this procedure to create a "Drivers/Utilities" diskette using the "Diskette Library" on the

Navigator CDROM:

1. Boot the system from the HP Navigator CD-ROM

2. Select “NetServer Utilities”

3. Select “Diskette Library”

4. Select "NOS Drivers - OS/2 Warp Family" and then select “execute”.

5. Label a blank diskette “HP NetServer IBM OS/2 Warp Drivers/Utilities Diskette”, insert

the diskette when prompted and follow the instructions.

6. If needed, create the video driver diskettes by following the same procedure.

7. Click “Exit” when done.

8. Click “Yes”, to reboot the system. Continue to Task 5.

Task 5) Copy the required drivers (which are identified in Task 3) from the "HP

Drivers/Utilities” diskette to the "Work Diskette 1".

NOTE: Do not copy the NIC driver onto the diskette #1. The NIC driver can be loaded

during Network setup at the end of the installation.

Task 6) Edit the Config.sys file in "Work Diskette 1" to include the drivers entry which are

added in Task 5 and delete drivers entry which are removed in Task 2.

Task 7) Include "set copyfromfloppy=1" as the first line in config.sys in "Work Diskette 1" to

allow the installation process to copy drivers from floppy than from OS/2 Installation CDROM.

Installation Steps

1. Insert the Installation diskette and reboot your system.

2. Remove the Installation diskette and insert the Diskette #1 press Enter.

3. Replace the Diskette #1 with Diskette #2 and press Enter.

4. Insert the OS/2 Warp Server for e-business CD into the CD-ROM drive and press Enter.

5. At the Welcome Screen press Enter.

6. At the OS/2 Warp Server for e-business Installation screen press Enter to begin the

installation.

7. At the Volumes too small screen press Enter to modify the volumes sizes.

8. At the Modifying Volumes Warning screen press Enter.

9. At the Logical Volume Management Tool screen press Enter to continue.

NOTE: Logical Volume Management Tool will come up with logical view, to see the

physical view press F5.

10. Press Enter to install the Boot Manager.

NOTE: At this point only CD-ROM drive will be highlighted.

11. Select Install Boot Manager.

12. Press Enter again and select create a new volume.

13. Select create a volume that can be made Bootable and press Enter .

14. Select the drive letter C: for your boot drive and press Enter.

15. Type OS/2 for the volume name and press Enter.

16. Select a disk to be used to create the volume and press Enter.

17. Allocate from free space is highlighted, press Enter.

18. Free space is highlighted, press Enter.

19. Select a name for the partition C: and press Enter.

20. Select a size in megabytes for the partition and press Enter.

NOTE: If boot drive will be formatted as FAT, it should be less than 2GB.

21. Highlight the volume you just created and press Enter.

22. Select Set the Volume Installable and press Enter.

23. Press F3 to Exit LVM.

24. Save the changes and exit.

NOTE: Additional drives in the system should be partitioned and formatted after OS/2

installation is completed. Volume type selection is optional based on customer's need

(Compatibility Volume or LVM Volume).

25. Replace the diskette #2 with the Installation diskette and press Ctrl-Alt-Del.

26. Insert diskette #1 and press Enter.

27. Insert diskette #2 and press Enter.

28. At the Welcome screen press Enter.

29. At the OS/2 Warp Server for e-business installation screen press Enter.

30. At Installation Volume Selection, highlight Accept the volume and press Enter.

31. At Formatting the Installation Volume, highlight Perform a quick format and press

Enter.

32. At the select the File System screen , select High Performance and press Enter.

33. Remove the diskette and press Enter to restart the workstation and continue the installation.

34. At System Configuration click on Next to accept the default.

35. Click on Next again.

36. At Country Information select United States and press OK.

37. At Select System Default Printer, select Do Not Install default Printer.

NOTE: If you are installing a printer select the proper driver for it.

38. At Primary Display Driver Install, select VGA.

39. At the OS/2 Warp Server for e-business Setup and Installation, accept the default and

press Next.

40. After base operating system installation and configuration are complete press Next to begin

the Server Component installation.

41. At Information Screen, Do Not enter anything and click on Next.

42. At the Services screen, accept the default and click on Next.

43. At the Configuration screen, click on UserID and Password:

Enter USERID for UserID

Enter PASSWORD for Password

44. Click on File and Print Sharing Services and specify the Server name and Domain name.

45. Click on Network Adapters and Protocol Services, and load the NIC driver from the

Drivers Diskette you created from the HP NetServer Navigator CD and add the desired

Protocol.

46. Click on Install then click on OK.

47. Remove the NIC driver diskette, installation will continue until it is completed.
