Please read these operating instructions before unpacking and putting the unit into
operation. Follow the instructions precisely as described herein.
The instruction manuals on our website www.kobold.com are always for currently
manufactured version of our products. Due to technical changes, the instruction
manuals available online may not always correspond to the product version you
have purchased. If you need an instruction manual that corresponds to the
purchased product version, you can request it from us free of charge by email
([email protected]) in PDF format, specifying the relevant invoice number and
serial number. If you wish, the operating instructions can also be sent to you by
post in paper form against an applicable postage fee.
The devices are only to be used, maintained and serviced by persons familiar with
these operating instructions and in accordance with local regulations applying to
Health & Safety and prevention of accidents.
When used in machines, the measuring unit should be used only when the
machines fulfil the EC-machine guidelines.
3. Instrument Inspection
Instruments are inspected before shipping and sent out in perfect condition.
Should damage to a device be visible, we recommend a thorough inspection of the
delivery packaging. In case of damage, please inform your parcel service /
forwarding agent immediately, since they are responsible for damages during
transit.

4. Regulation Use
Any use of the device, which exceeds the manufacturer’s specification, may
invalidate its warranty. Therefore, any resulting damage is not the responsibility of
the manufacturer. The user assumes all risk for such usage.

5. Operating Principle
The Kobold U-pipe pressure gauge model: PUM works on the basis of the
hydrostatic principle. It is used for measuring differential pressure in low range
(max. 150 mbar).
The “U” tube differential manometer model: PUM has to be filled up with distilled
water up to close the “0” point in the middle of the glass tube. After it the connected
pressure will increase the level of the water in the one side of the manometer. The
level of the water will be decrease in the other side of the tube. The differential
pressure is equal to the distance of the two levels of water in the “U” tube in water
column millimeter. The distance between the two level can be read easily by the
scale on the housing.
6. Mechanical Connection
Before Installation:
• Remove all transportation safety locks and ensure that no packing material
remains within the unit.
• Install the unit to a stable place and fix it against moving and upset.
• Fill the measuring tube up with distilled water up to close the “0” point in the
middle of the glass tube.
• Install the “U” tube differential manometer in the piping system with flexible pipe,
ensure the instrument is under no mechanical stress/tension.
• Be sure that the maximum allowable operating pressure and temperature is not
exceeded (see Technical information).
• Protect the measuring tube from external damage.
7. Operation
Connect the pressure to the one side of the unit carefully. The result can be read
on the scale in water column millimeter.
8. Maintenance
After the measuring the ends of the unit have to be closed to avoid the evaporation
of the distilled water from the measuring tube. We recommend the frequent
cleaning if you can see any crust or dirt inside the glass tube.
