Congratulations!
Congratulations on your purchase of the VISION Line™ Tank Cars! On the outside, these
cars are accurately detailed to match the prototype. The two sound cars are equipped
with the latest technology to bring you realistic tank sounds, and true-to-life freight car
sounds. Many of the sounds are activated through your cab control unit, and many of them
by the actual movement of the tank cars on your layout. They also come equipped with an
ElectroCoupler on one end, so you can activate the coupler by your remote control cab unit
anywhere on your layout. Enjoy the realistic freight and train brake sounds, and have lots of
fun loading and unloading your tank cars while you listen to the fluid rushing sounds! This
3-pack includes two sound equipped tank cars and one with out sound features.

Removing the end cap
To access the programming switches and/or to change the battery, you must first remove the
end cap from the tank car.
1. Gently detach the handrail by pulling it away from the clasp and lowering the handrail.
2. Pull the die-cast warning placard off the cross-bar.
3. Twist the end cap in a counter-clockwise motion to remove the end cap.

Installing the battery
1. Grab the electronics sled and pull it out. Be careful not to pull too far to avoid removing
the sled from it's guides on the inner walls of the tank cylinder.
If the sled is completely removed, be careful when reinstalling to align the sled
into the guides along the inner walls of the tank car. If the sled is not in the
guides, it can not be mated to the electrical connector in the rear of the cylinder.
2. Connect a 9V battery and place it in the sled.
3. Gently push the sled back into the cylinder until the sled snaps into the rear connector.
Do not force the sled into the cylinder as the sled should easily snap into the connector if
properly inserted into the guides along the inner walls of the cylinder.
Note!
Note! Although the LEGACY RailSounds sound system is powered through the track,
we recommend that you install a nine-volt alkaline battery in the car to prevent
the sound system from shutting down during track power interruptions (for
example, at a switch or a dirty section of track). Follow these steps and see
above as you install the battery.

Mode Switch
Your tank car is automatically assigned an ID#1 when you first receive it. To
assign a new ID # to the tank car in LEGACY and Command operation follow these
steps:
1. Slide the Mode switch to the “PROG” position.
2. Place the tank car on the track.
3. Connect the Command Base and plug it in.
4. Power up the track.
5. Press ENG on your CAB controller.
6. Enter an unique ID#. Choose any number from 1 to 98 that has not been assigned to
another engine or freight car.
7. Press AUX PROG. Enter 5 for this particular locomotive.
8. Press the SET button on your CAB controller.
9. Slide the Mode switch back to the RUN position.
The tank car’s ID# has been set. Be sure to record the new ID# for your reference.

DEVICE
The two sound equipped tank cars (TEIX 30220 and TEIX 30172) contain
Railsounds programming switches and the (TEIX 30172) car contains an additional
switch to enable/disable the end-of-train device.

Switch function overview
EOT Light Switch
One of the tanks cars (TEIX 30172) end cap is equipped with an End-of-Train
(EOT) device box. This box on the end of your tank car comes equipped with an
illuminated light. Like real freight cars on the railroad, it is appropriate to have the
EOT light on when it is the designated last car in your consist, but feel free to keep
the light on no matter where you place the tank car in your consist.
If you prefer to turn the tank car EOT light off, slide the EOT switch to the “EOT OFF”
position. When you want to turn the light back on, simply slide the switch back to the “EOT
ON” position.
Sound Set Switch
For all sound effects, keep the Sound Set switch in the “MAX” position. If you wish
to mute Freight Sounds sound effects from playing (wheel grinding in curves, rail
clatter, and coupler sounds), move the switch position to the “MIN” position.
Volume Pot
To adjust the overall volume of sounds,open the hatch at the top of the tank car,
insert a small Phillips screwdriver into the Volume Pot adjustment screw and turn. To
increase the volume, turn the screw clockwise toward the "+" icon. To decrease the
volume, turn the screw counter-clockwise toward the "-" icon.

Securing the end cap
After you've either changed the battery and/or changed the programming switches,
you are going to want to button your tank car back up.
1. Place the end cap back onto the end of the cylinder, making sure that the locking pins
on the end cap are mated correctly to the tank cylinder, and with a twist-and-lock clock-
wise motion, secure the end cap on the cylinder. The handrail clasp should now be in a
vertical position to allow securing the handrail.
2. Replace the warning placard in the slot on the cross-bar.
3. Lift the handrail up and gently secure the handrail into the clasp.
4. You are now ready to continue operation of your tank car.
5. Make sure your track is powered down, then place the tank car back on your layout.
6. Power up your track and move 'em out.

Quick Start
Power your tank car with an alternating-current (AC) transformer only. Powering
your locomotive with a direct-current (DC) transformer, or in excess of 19 volts AC,
may result in damage to sensitive electronic components
LEGACY Control operations
For the finest operating experience, your tank car is fully compatible with the new LEGACY
Control System.
To operate in LEGACY mode, you need a LEGACY Command Base and LEGACY CAB-2
Remote Controller. Both products are offered together in the LEGACY Command Set
(available separately, 6-14295).
1. Turn off track power and plug in the LEGACY Base.
2. Place your tank car on any Lionel or Lionel-compatible track and connect to
your train consist led by a command control locomotive.
3. Increase track power voltage to full power (no more than 19 volts AC).
4. Press ENG and 1 to address your tank car with your LEGACY CAB-2 Remote
Controller.
5. Press ENG and the address number of your locomotive to get your engine
moving with your CAB-2 Remote Controller (see instruction manual included
with your engine for more information).
6. Throttle up and move 'em out.
If you are operating with v1.2 cab software, make sure to identify your tank car
as type "OTHER" (press the CAB-2 INFO button, then select the INFO EDIT screen.
Scroll to "OTH" and select). Further, the control system should be set to TMCC and
the sound system to LRS.
If you are operating with v1.3 cab software, make sure to identify your tank car
as type "FRT" (press the CAB-2 INFO button, then scroll to the TYPE tab. Scroll to
"FRT" and select). Further, the control system should be set to LEG and the sound
system to LRS.

Transformer operations
You can also operate the tank cars in the non-Command Control environment with a
traditional transformer, but there are a number of user-activated sounds that you will not
be able to operate. Pressing a “short horn” blow when stopped can be used to activate the
loading and unloading sound features.
1. Place your tank car on any Lionel or Lionel-compatible track and connect to
your train consist led by any locomotive.
2. Power your locomotive at 12-18 volts with your alternating current (AC)
transformer.
3. Press the DIRECTION button on your controller, then throttle up and move em
out
4. Pressing the short horn button after a recent stop will activate the Unloading
Fluid announcement. If approximately 15 seconds or more passes after a stop, a
short horn blow will instead activate the Loading Fluid announcement.

TrainMaster Command Control operations
You can also operate the tank car in the Command Control environment, but there are
a few features that you will not be able to activate. One feature you cannot activate is
the Train Brake. To operate the tank car in the Command Control environment you need a
Command Base (available separately, 6-12911) and a CAB-1 Remote Controller (available
separately, 6-12868).
1. Turn off track power and plug-in the Command Base.
2. Place your tank car on any Lionel or Lionel-compatible track and connect to
your train consist led by a command control locomotive.
3. Increase track voltage to full power (no more than 19 volts AC).
4. Press ENG and 1 to address your tank car with your CAB-1 Remote Controller.
5. Press ENG and the address number of your locomotive to get your engine
moving with your CAB-1 Remote Controller (see instruction manual included
with you engine for more information).
6. Throttle up and move 'em out.
Note! Although the LEGACY RailSounds sound system is powered through the track,
