Associated Equipment
The ML-300 Amp is intended for use with one or two ML-300 in-wall subwoofers and
optional ML-300 Back Box.
Break-In
For maximum performance, please allow 100+ hours of break-in at moderate listening levels.
Notes About Speaker Cable
Before running speaker cable through walls, ceiling, and floors please check
local building codes or contact a qualified installer (see your dealer).
Information on running speaker cable through walls, ceiling, and floors is not covered
in this manual. If you are uncomfortable running cable, please contact your dealer.
Installing the Rack Mount Brackets
WARNING! Turn your ML-300 Amp to 'Off' before making or breaking any
signal connections!
Content Check List
You will find the following items enclosed for your new MartinLogan loudspeaker.
Should you require assistance please call our service department at (785) 749-0133.
__ (1) ML-300 Amplifier
__ (1) Power Cord
__ (2) Rack Mount Brackets

WARNING! If not rack mounted make sure the amplifier is placed on a flat
level surface.
WARNING! If rack mounted, ensure there is adequate ventilation of at least
3-inches above, 1-inch below, and 6-inches behind the amplifier. If adequate
ventilation is not possible additional cooling is required.
To attach the rack mount brackets use a Phillips head screwdriver to install two M4 x
10mm screws per side (see diagram).

(1) Status Light
When the status LED is blue, the ML-300 Amp is on. When the status LED is red the
ML-300 Amp is in standby mode.
(2) Mode Switch
The Mode Switch must be set to 'auto' or 'on' for the subwoofer to operate. When
set to 'auto' the ML-300 Amp will automatically enter a power saving mode when no
audio signal is detected for approximately 30 minutes. The ML-300 Amp will automati-
cally come out of power saving mode when a signal is detected.
(3) Back Box Switch
The back box switch should be set to 'yes' if using the optional subwoofer back box.
When set to 'no' maximum output is reduced to help minimize rattles and buzzes that
may occur. If the back box is in use and you are experiencing rattles and buzzes, try
setting this switch to 'no'. This switch does not change equalization.

6
(4) Phase Switch
The phase control is entirely dependent on the size and configuration of your listen-
ing environment, the placement of the unit, and your seating arrangement. Due to the
way bass sound waves develop in different rooms, there is no rule of thumb for setting
phase. For instance, if your room has a peak at the subwoofer crossover area, you may
wish to set the phase so the actual acoustic outputs of the subwoofer and main speak-
ers are out of phase. Start at 90°, experiment, and be patient.
(5) Low Pass Knob
When the ML-300 Amp is connected in multi-channel mode (via its LFE input and with
the low-pass set to 120Hz/bypass), the low pass filter is not active and your processor
handles the bass management. When connected in 2-channel mode (via its line level
left/right input with the low-pass set below 120Hz/bypass) the low-pass filter is active.
As a general rule (if connected in 2-channel mode) the low pass filter should be set equal
to approximately 70% of your front left and right speaker’s lowest frequency response.
Remember, this is a general rule. We advise that once you try the recommended setting
using the formula above, you should try the surrounding settings to see which sounds best.
(6) Level Knob
Setting the level too high will cause the bass to seem bloated and is the single most
common cause of bad sounding subwoofers. A rule of thumb is that the subwoofer
should not draw attention to itself, but should simply make the systems low end seem
more extended and accurate.
Rear Panel Connections

WARNING! If the ML-300 Amp is attached in LFE mode (using the Right/LFE
Line Level Input) do not attach the Left Line Level In.
WARNING! Turn your ML-300 Amp to 'Off' before making or breaking any
signal connections!
WARNING! Turn your amplifier off before making or breaking any signal con-
nections. This will avoid damage which could result from accidental shorting
of speaker cables.

MartinLogan's engineering and design team developed the ML-300 Amp for easy
setup and integration. Before connecting your ML-300 Amp, please review the controls
discussed in this manual. An understanding of these will help speed you along as you
connect and integrate your ML-300 Amp. All signal connections are done on the rear
connections panel. Make certain that all of your connections are tight.
(1) Line In
Connect either the left/right outputs from a stereo pre-amplifier to both inputs on the
ML-300 amplifier or connect a single LFE output from a home theater processor or
receiver to either line-in input (see following diagrams).
(2) Line Out
Line Out outputs are unaltered line level signals for use in installs where more than one
amplifier is required. If the first amp is connected from a pre-amplifier using two left/
right cables use two cables to connect the next amplifier. If the first amp is connected
from a home theater processor LFE out using only one cable use a single cable attached
to the corresponding output to connect the next amplifier (see following diagrams).

(3) Subwoofer Out 1 and 2
Your amplifier is equipped with high-quality binding posts that can be used with
banana, pin or spade connectors, as well as with bare wire. Connect the red (+) ampli-
fier terminal to the red (+) speaker terminal and the black (–) amplifier terminal to the
black (–) speaker terminal. Tighten the posts firmly by hand, but don’t over-tighten them.
(4) Master Power
Located next to the AC Input, the Master Power switch must be set to 'on' for the ML-300
Amp to operate. Set this switch to 'off' before making or breaking any connections.
(5) AC Power Connection
WARNING! The power cord should not be installed, removed, or left
detached from the ML-300 Amp while the other end is connected to an AC
power source.
The IEC cord should be firmly inserted into the AC power receptacle on the rear of the
amplifier, then to any convenient AC wall outlet. Directly adjacent to the AC power
receptacle on the rear of the amplifier is a master power switch. This switch is wired
directly to the AC main and turns on/off all power going to the amplifier. The ML-300
Amp also integrates a signal sensing power supply that will go to Standby mode after a
few minutes of no music signal if the front-panel mode switch is set to 'auto'.
Your amplifier is wired for the power service supplied in the country of original con-

sumer sale. The AC power rating applicable to a particular unit is specified both on the
packing carton and on the attached serial number plate.
If you remove your amplifier from the country of original sale, be certain that AC power
supplied in any subsequent location is suitable before connecting and operating the
subwoofer. Substantially impaired performance or severe damage may occur to the
subwoofer if operation is attempted from an incorrect AC power source.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I clean my amplifier? Use only a dry cloth to remove dust from the amplifier.
Do not use any liquids or chemical based cleaning products
Could you suggest a list of suitable electronics and cables that would be ideal for
MartinLogan speakers? The area of electronics and cable choice is probably the most
common type of question that we receive. It is also the most subjective. We have
repeatedly found that brands that work well in one setup will drive someone else nuts
in another. We use many brands with great success. Again, we have no favorites; we
use electronics and cables quite interchangeably. We would suggest listening to a num-
ber of brands—and above all else—trust your ears. Dealers are always the best source
for information when purchasing additional audio equipment or cables and will be well
versed in the subject of special safety requirements for in-wall cable.
Troubleshooting
No Output
• Check that all your system components are turned on, not muted, and that your
balance control (if applicable) is set correctly.
• Check to make sure your power outlet at the wall is working.
• Check your power cords, speaker wires, and interconnecting cables.
• Check to make sure no headphones are plugged in.
• Swap speaker wires at your amplifier with those of a speaker that is functioning
correctly. If the lack of output moves to a different speaker the problem could be
with other equipment in your system (i.e. amp, pre-amp, processor, etc.)
• Try hooking up a different set of speakers. If the lack of output moves to a different
speaker the problem could be with other equipment in your system (i.e. amp, pre-
amp, processor, etc.)
Lack of Bass or Poor Imaging
• Check your speaker wires. Is the polarity correct — (+) to (+) and (–) to (–)?

Service
Should you be using your MartinLogan product in a country other than the one in which
it was originally purchased, we ask that you note the following:
1 The appointed MartinLogan distributor for any given country is responsible for
warranty servicing only on units distributed by or through it in that country in accor-
dance with its applicable warranty.
2 Should a MartinLogan product require servicing in a country other than the one
in which it was originally purchased, the end user may seek to have repairs per-
formed by the nearest MartinLogan distributor, subject to that distributor’s local
servicing policies, but all cost of repairs (parts, labor, transportation) must be borne
by the owner of the MartinLogan product.
3 If, after owning your speakers for six months, you relocate to a country other than
the one in which you purchased your speakers, your warranty may be transfer-
able. Contact MartinLogan for details.
