Scope of delivery
The fo owing parts be ong to the scope of de ivery of the WIB2D:

Introduction
The WIB2D is a sma portab e NAVTEX receiver. The device receives simu taneous y
NAVTEX-messages on medium wave frequencies 518 kHz (internationa , Eng ish) and on
490 kHz (nationa , nationa anguage).
The NAVTEX messages are disp ayed on 128 x 64 pixe LCD. The WIB2D equiped with
an inserted precision air pressure sensor, is ab e to record the air pressure during a period
of up to seven days. On the device disp ay on y the air pressure of the ast two days can
be seen.
An antenna insta ation is not necessary, since the WIB2D is equipped with an interna
ferrit rod antenna. The device is equipped with rechargeab e batteries (3 x NiMH, Typ
AAA). The battery capacity asts for approx. three days of operation.
The device can be connected to the PC via an USB interface. The data of the WIB2D wi
be disp ayed by a comfortab e Windows software. The software is working with the
operating systems Windows 2000, XP and Vista, avai ab e in German, Eng ish and French
version.
Operation
The WIB2D is hand ed by five buttons. Press the power button ( ) to
switch the device on or off. In order to switch off, the power button must
be pressed during approx. 2.5 seconds.
Use the four cursor buttons (▲▼◄►) to navigate within the menus.
After switch on the WIB2D disp ays the main menu (see figure be ow).
On the eft beside the menu entries an arrow is ocated which can be
moved by the buttons ▲ and ▼.
With the button ► the menu entry beside the arrow is
se ected. With the button ◄ the previous menu step can
be reached unti the main base.
Practice a whi e with the hand ing of the cursor buttons,
unti you are fami ar.
On top of the disp ay the actua air pressure, the air pressure tendency and the
temperature are disp ayed. The disp ayed va ues are updated every minute.
The battery icon (on top of the right) disp ays the state of charge of the batteries. If the
batteries are charged, the icon b inks in second cyc e. P ease note: The device heats up
with charging batteries. The disp ayed temperature is thereby corrupted.
The menu anguage of the WIB2D can be changed (see section Language, Page 8).

NAVTEX Messages
The structure of a NAVTEX message is to be exp ained on the basis of fo owing examp e:

Each NAVTEX-message begins with the etters ZCZC, fo owed by the message
identification (PA09). The first etter of the message identification serves the master station
for identification. In this examp e it is NETHERLANDS COASTGUARD (P).
In the second etter the kind of message is coded, here navigationa warning (navigation
warnings). The ast two numbers of the message identification (09) are a seria numbers.
The number 00 has a privi eged position. It is reserved for distress messages.
NAVTEX messages have a time stamp. It is shown at the end of the third ine (172128
UTC August) and means: 17. August, 21:28 UTC. The time stamp refers to the date, the
message was produced and not to the time of the radiant transmission. Afterwards the
message content fo ows. The message ends with NNNN.
To disp ay NAVTEX messages p ease fo ow the menus entries
NAVTEX 518KHZ (ENGLISH) (internationa e messages) or
NAVTEX 49 KHZ (NATIONAL) (nationa messages) in the main menu.
An overview of the different message kinds is shown.
The number behind the message kind indicates the
number of messages of the corresponding type stored
in the WIB2D. O d messages are de eted automatica y
after two days uptime.
The number on top of the right in the disp ay (518 or 49 ) shows whether internationa
(518 kHz) or nationa (490 kHz) of NAVTEX messages are indicated.

By se ecting a message kind from the menu (figure on the page 6), a ist with a messages
of corresponding type appears.
The ast received message is on top of the ist.
The message identifications are marked with either NEW,
ROLLBACK or READ according y new, repeated or read
messages.
By se ecting a message from the message ist, the
contents of the message appears on the disp ay.
With the cursor buttons ▲ and ▼ messages can be
scro ed up and down.
Characters, which were not received correct y, wi be
shown by the WIB2D as an under ine (_).
Barograph
P ease se ect the menu entry BAROGRAPH in the main
menu to disp ay the barograph data.
The air pressure of the ast 48 hours wi be disp ayed.
The actua air pressure is ocated on the right of the
diagram.
Station List
To view the station ist, p ease se ect in the main menu the menu entries
SETTINGS→STATION LIST 518KHZ for internationa and
SETTINGS→STATION LIST 49 KHZ for nationa NAVTEX messages.
The station ist is used to hide undesirab e NAVTEX
stations.
To hide a station, p ease se ect the corresponding
station key with the buttons ▲ and ▼. Then the station
can be deactivated and activated with the button ►.
Hidden stations wi sti be received, and appear again in the message ist if they are
reactivated. You find a ist of the NAVTEX stations in Europe on page 13 (Appendix
NAVTEX Stations).
P ease note: Hiding of NAVTEX stations is not quite harm ess. Thus, e.g., important
messages are not disp ayed if you use the device in another sea area.

Display Settings
To reach the Display menu p ease choose the menu
entries SETTINGS→ DISPLAY SETTINGS in the main
menu.
You can adjust here the contrast, the back ighting, the
screensaver and the anguage.
Contrast
By se ecting the menu entry CONTRAST the adjustment
of the disp ay contrast is possib e with the buttons ▲
and ▼.
With the button ◄ you wi return to the menu Display
Settings.
Backlight
By se ecting the menu entry BACKLIGHT the adjustment
of the afterg ow time of the disp ay back ighting is
possib e with the buttons ▲ and ▼.
The afterg ow time determines, how ong the back ighting
remains enab ed after the ast keystroke. The adjustment
range is between 0 and 60 seconds.
Screensaver
By se ecting the menu entry SCREENSAVER the
adjustment of the screensaver atency or switch off the
screensaver is possib e with the buttons ▲ and ▼.
The adjustment range is between 2 and 10 minutes.
The screensaver atency determines, how ong it asts, unti the screen saver becomes
active after the ast keystroke. If the screensaver is active, the disp ay is switched off.
This raises the ife time of the disp ay and reduces the current consumption of the device.
Language
By se ecting the menu entry LANGUAGE the adjustment
of the menu anguage of the WIB2D is possib e with the
buttons ▲ and ▼.
At present the WIB2D supports the anguages German,
Eng ish, Spanish and France.

Barograph Settings
To reach the menu Barograph Settings p ease choose
the menu entries SETTINGS→BAROGRAPH SETTINGS
in the main menu.
You can adjust here the barograph power reserve, the
barometer a titude and the ca ibration of the pressure
sensor.
Barograph Power Reserve
By se ecting the menu entry
BAROGRAPH POWER RESERVE the adjustment of the
barograph power reserve or switch it off is possib e with
the buttons ▲ and ▼.
With active power reserve the device is not comp ete y switched off by the power button.
The Barograph measures with decreased current consumption whi e the reception part of
the WIB2D is switched off.
If the power reserve is enab ed and the battery is weak, the WIB2D does not switch off
comp ete y. The device keeps on recording the air pressure, unti the battery is comp ete y
discharged.
With deactivated barograph power reserve or with comp ete y discharged batteries the
Barograph curve gets ost.
Barometer Altitude
By se ecting the menu entry BAROMETER ALTITUDE
the adjustment of the baromter a titude (height of the
device above sea eve ) in 5 meter steps is possib e with
the buttons ▲ and ▼.
With correct y justified barometer height the WIB2D
disp ays the air pressure referred to sea eve .
The adjustment range of the barometer a titude is between 0 and 1000 meter.
Calibration
The typica ong term stabi ity of the air pressure sensor of the WIB2D is -1 hPa/year.
Every year the disp ayed air pressure sinks by approx. 1 hPa. You can correct this by
ca ibrating the device. You need a reference air pressure referred on sea eve . The
baromter a titude must be adjusted correct y before ca ibration.
In order to ca ibrate the air pressure sensor p ease se ect
the menu entry CALIBRATION.
Now adjust the air pressure disp ay (on top of the eft)
with the buttons ▲ and ▼ unti it is conform to the
reference air pressure.

System Information
To disp ay the system information se ect the menu
entries SETTINGS→SYSTEM INFORMATION in the main
menu.
The system information shows the firmware version and
the seria number of the device.
Software
You can a so use your PC to read the data of the WIB2D. The software appropriate is
inc uded in the scope of supp y of the WIB2D. The software is working with the operating
systems Windows 2000, XP and Vista.
Software installation
The software of the WIB2D is stored on the enc osed CD. In the fo der Deutsch on the CD
you wi find the insta ation program for the German version. The fo der English contains
the insta ation program for the Eng ish version and the fo der Francais contains the
appropriate insta ation program for the French version.
In order to insta the software p ease start the required insta ation program (Setup.exe)
with a doub e c ick. Afterwards you have to fo ow the instructions shown on the screen.
After insta ation the WIB2D is ready for operation. P ease attach the WIB2D via USB
cab e to the PC and start the WIB2D program.
Software updates for the WIB2D wi be spread via internet. Neverthe ess, p ease ook
form time to time under http://www.weatherinfobox.com, to make sure, you have the atest
version.

Operating instructions
Environment
P ease use the equipment on y in the interior in dry environment. Do not expose the
equipment in use to temperatures higher than 50°C and ower than 0°C.
