This section will guide you through the installation of your PCI Express card and the

related software. Please read through the instructions carefully and complete each step

in the order listed.

1. Make sure that your system is unplugged and you are grounded.

2. Remove the cover of your system (see your computer's user manual for details, if

necessary) and gently turn your computer onto its side, leaving the open side of the

case exposed.

3. Locate an empty PCI Express slot and remove the blank slot cover from the back of

the computer.

4. Align the card horizontally with the slot and gently insert it into the empty slot, making

sure it is firmly seated.

5. Secure the card in place using the screw you removed in Step 3 (if applicable).

6. Put the computer cover back on.

7. Power on the computer normally, but don’t connect the FireWire periherals to the

ports provided until after the software installation is complete.

WARNING: Be sure that you are properly grounded before opening your

computer case or touching any components. StarTech.com recommends that

you wear an anti-static strap when installing any computer equipment. If an

anti-static strap is unavailable, discharge yourself of any static electricity build-

up by touching a large grounded metal surface (such as the computer case) for

several seconds.

Hardware installation

Software installation - Windows

Once the computer has rebooted, following hardware installation, the operating system

will detect that the card was installed, and launch the Add New Hardware Wizard, in

order to install the necessary drivers. Follow the prompts provided to load the drivers

automatically. Once complete, reboot the computer for the installation to take effect.

Once the computer reboots following software installation:

1. Right-click on My Computer and select Manage.

2. In the left pane of the window that appears, click on Device Manager.

3. Left-click on the [+] sign located next to IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers. Here, you

should see the new controller card listed.

Instruction Manual

4. Right-click on the device listing and choose Properties. Under the General tab, you

will see a status message indicating that This device is working properly.

Troubleshooting

If the device driver is not properly installed, you will notice a question mark (?) or

exclamation point (!) displayed to the left of the device listing in the Device Manager. To

correct this:

1. Ensure that the controller card is properly seated in the PCI Express slot.

2. Ensure that a previous version of the driver is not currently installed/in use. If it is,

please uninstall accordingly, and reinstall the new card.

3. A driver conflict exists between the controller card and a similar device. Please

uninstall/reinstall accordingly.
