Tireinationsystemsusecompressedairfromthetrailertoinateanytrailertirethatfallsbelowthetireair
pressuresettingduringoperation.Airfromtheexistingtrailerairsupplyisroutedtoacontrolbox,theninto
eachaxle.
Actingasaconduit,axlescarryairthrougharotaryunionassemblyatthespindleendwhichthen
distributes air to each tire as needed.
Thistechnicalbulletincoversinstallationofthepartsnecessaryfortrailerstohavetireinationsystem
communication.
Anindicatorlightonthefrontofthetrailerinformsthedriverofanexcessiveamountofairow
through the system. If the indicator light is illuminated, appropriate maintenance or repairs to
the system should be performed.

4.1 InstallationofMeritorTireInationSystem
1. Wear safe eye protection.
2. Park the vehicle on a level surface. Block the wheels to prevent the vehicle from moving.
3. Raisethevehiclesothatthewheelstobeservicedareofftheground.Supporttheaxletobeserviced
with safety stands.
4. InstalltheMTIScontrolboxwiththeWABCOMTISpigtailcable(partnumberxxxxxxxxMW).The“MW”
attheendoftheMTISpartnumbersigniesthepigtailcableispre-installedintothecontrolbox.
