Bonded DSL

Introduction

•Bonding uses two (or more) DSL lines to provide one CPE with

more DSL bandwidth than provided by one DSL line alone.

•Zyxel CPEs support 2-line bonding.

•Two phone lines must be terminated between the CPE and

the curbside DSLAM to use bonding.

•Both the CPE and DSLAM must support IETF G.Bond for

bonding to occur.

•The DLSAM must have a bonding group created for the two

lines going to the CPE.

Overview of Bonded DSL

•Advantages:

•Multiplies single line rate.

•Increased bandwidth for bandwidth -hungry applications like multiple

Hi-Def IPTV feeds for multiple Set-Top Boxes.

•Typically cheaper than Fiber to the Home (FttH) installations.

•Disadvantages:

•Requires multiple telephone lines per CPE.

•Requires end-to-end G.Bond support.
