ThischapterprovidesinstructionsoninstallingandconguringthewirelessWANadapter.

Thischapteralsoprovidesinstructionsoninstallingthedevicedriversonthefollowingoperatingsystems:

•Windows7

Beforeyoubegin

BeforeinstallingthewirelessWANadapter,carefullyreadthefollowinginformation.

Attention:ThewirelessWANadapterisshippedwithanantistaticbag.Whenhandling,takethefollowing

precautionstopreventstaticelectricityfromdamagingtheelectronicparts:

•DonotopentheantistaticbaguntilyouarereadytoinstallthewirelessWANadapterintothePCIExpress

MiniCardslotinyourcomputer.

•BeforeremovingthewirelessWANadapterfromtheantistaticbag,drainstaticelectricityfromthebag

andfromyourbodybytouchingthebagtoametaltableoragroundedmetalobject.

InstallingthewirelessWANadapter

WheninstallingorreplacingthewirelessWANadapter,besuretofollowtheprecautionsbelow.

ToinstallthewirelessWANadapter,dothefollowing:

1.Turnoffthecomputer.

2.InstallthewirelessWANadapterfollowingthestep-by-stepinstructionsonthesetupposters.

Note:IfyourServiceProviderrequiresaSIMcard,installtheSIMcardprovidedintheoptionpackage

followingtheinstructionsintheuserguideforyourThinkPadcomputer.

3.Restartyourcomputer.

4.DownloadandinstallthedevicedriversforthewirelessWANadapterandtheLenovo®Mobile

BroadbandActivation(LMBA)programbydoingoneofthefollowing:

•Gotohttp://www.lenovo.com/support/wireless,andthenfollowtheinstructionsonthescreen.

•StarttheThinkVantage®SystemUpdateprogrambydoingoneofthefollowing:

–ForWindowsXPorWindowsVista:

ClickStart➙AllPrograms➙ThinkVantage➙SystemUpdate.

–ForWindows7:

a.ClickStart➙AllPrograms➙LenovoThinkVantageTools.

b.Double-clickUpdateandDrivers.

Then,followtheinstructionsonthescreen.

5.StarttheLMBAprogramtoactivatethewirelessWANadapter.Anaccountwithamobilebroadband

ServiceProviderisrequired.

6.StarttheThinkVantageAccessConnectionsprogramtoconrmyourwirelessconnectionortoassist

inresolvinganyconnectionproblems.Fordetailedcongurationinstructions,refertotheAccess

Connectionshelpinformationsystem.

using,dooneofthefollowing:

Chapter3.Troubleshooting

IfyouexperiencethefollowingproblemwiththeWirelessWANadapter,trythesolutionprovidedtosolve

theproblem.

Problem:IhavecorrectlyinstalledtheWirelessWANadapteronmycomputer,butthecomputerfailsto

recognizetheWirelessWANadapter.

Solution:ResettheUniedExtensibleFirmwareInterface(UEFI)BasicInput/OutputSystem(BIOS)

congurationofyourcomputertothedefaultsettingsbydoingthefollowing:

1.Turnonthecomputer.

2.WhenyouseetheThinkPadlogoscreen,pressF1toentertheBIOS.

3.PressF9,andthenselectY estoloadthedefaultconguration.

4.PressF10tosavecongurationchangesandexitbyselectingYes.Thecomputerrestarts.

Note:Afterthecomputerrestarts,theBIOSchangesareautomaticallysaved.Thereisnoneedtoreset

theBIOScongurationagainthenexttimeyoustartyourcomputer.
