GSAFETY WARNINGS
The VF3 Voltage detector may help in the indication of live AC circuits only, and
must not be used as verification of a de-energised circuit. This is not a safety test
lamp.
If damaged, do not use.
This instruction guide and markings on the detector provide information for
avoiding hazards and unsafe practices related to the use of this tool.
Observe all of the safety information provided.
FWARNING - ELECTRIC SHOCK HAZARD :
Contact with live circuits can result in severe injury or death
Do not use the unit if it is wet or damaged
Do not apply more than the rated voltage between the
probe tip and earth ground
Do not operate with the case open
CAUTION: Do not attempt to repair this unit, it contains no
user-serviceable parts
Do not expose the unit to extremes in temperature or
high humidity
CATIV - Measurement category IV: Equipment connected between the origin
of the low-voltage mains supply outside the building and the consumer unit.
CATIII - Measurement category III: Equipment connected between the
consumer unit and the electrical outlets.
CATII - Measurement category II: Equipment connected between the
electrical outlets and the user’s equipment.
t Equipment protected throughout by
double insulation (Class II).
Equipment complies with current EU directives.
End of life disposal
WEEE DIRECTIVE
The crossed out wheeled bin symbol on the instrument and on the batteries is a
reminder not to dispose of them with general waste at the end of their life.

information in this guide before operating this
detector.
DESCRIPTION
The Megger VF3 voltage detector is intended to check for the presence of AC
voltage, signaled by a bright red LED situated within the white nylon tip and
an audible buzzer. The VF3 has the added advantage of a bright-white LED
flashlight for use in poor light.
FEATURES
Non-contact detection of AC voltage 100 V - 600 V
AC 50 Hz/60 Hz
Visual and audible warning of high voltage
Durable rubber over-moulded body
Built in bright-white LED flashlight
Low power consumption - many hours of flashlight illumination
from one set of alkaline batteries
Convenient pocket-size
The Megger VF3 is useful for identifying live conductors, finding a break in a
wire, verifying a blown fuse while in circuit, and detecting the presence of AC
voltage at
Socket outlets
Switches
Circuit breakers
Fuses
Wires and cables
Luminaires
GOOD PRACTICE:
Before each use the unit must be tested on a known live supply.
Place the probe tip on or near the circuit under test. The probe tip will glow
bright red and the buzzer will sound when an AC voltage between 90 V and
600 V is detected.
If the unit still fails to operate satisfactorily, return for repair.
If the unit does not function as expected , replace the batteries.
NOTE: The VF3 cannot detect voltage on armoured or sheathed cable, or on
cable in conduit, behind panels or in metallic enclosures.
FLASHLIGHT
Operate the black button alternately to turn the white LED ON and OFF.
BATTERY REPLACEMENT
Remove the unit from proximity of any live circuits
Turn off flashlight
Remove battery cap (1) by lifting clip (2) slightly and pulling
cap (1) off body (3)
Replace batteries, carefully observing correct type and polarity
Replace battery cap (1)

DESCRIPTION
The Megger VF3 Voltage detector is a compact pen-style instrument
to identify the presence of live AC voltages from 90 V to 600 V at
50 or 60 Hz. Voltage is capacitively detected, signalled on the VF3
by the illumination of a bright red LED situated within the white
nylon tip. The VF3 has the additional feature of an audible warning
device actuated simultaneously to the red LED.
The VF3 incorporates a flashlight torch. Extended battery life is
achieved by the use of a bright-white LED.
APPLICATION
The VF3 can be used for identifying the presence of ac voltage at
socket outlets, switches, circuit breakers, fuses, luminaries, wires
and cables. It can identify breaks in conductors by tracing along the
cable from the source to the point where the indicator no longer
illuminates; and also identify a blown fuse while in circuit.
