Important
• Please read these instructions carefully in
conjunction with the illustrations, before using
the appliance.
• Take care when using the trimmer for the first
couple of times.
Do not move too fast: make smooth and gentle
movements.
• Regular cleaning and good maintenance
guarantee optimum performance and the longest
working-life.
• Do not allow the appliance to become wet.
• Do not leave the appliance in a very warm place
or in direct sunlight.
• Keep the appliance out of children’s reach.
• Your trimmer is only designed for trimming the
human beard. Do not use the appliance for other
applications!
• Do not use abrasives or scourers, or liquids such
as alcohol, petrol or acetone for cleaning.

Batteries
• Inserting batteries:
Your trimmer operates on two R6 1.5 Volt “Penlight”
batteries.
Philips LR6 alkaline batteries are recommended for their
long working life and environmental-friendliness (operating
time is about 2 hours).
- Release the batteries holder by pulling the batteries
holder at the grip area untill it stops (fig. 2).
- Place the batteries as shown in fig. 3. Ensure that the
+ and - indications of the batteries match with the
signs in the appliance.
- Push the batteries holder back into the appliance until it
stops (‘Click’!) (fig. 4).

• To remove empty batteries:
- Release the batteries holder by pulling the batteries
holder at the grip area untill it stops (fig. 2).
- Push the batteries out of the holder as illustrated (fig. 5).
Do not leave empty batteries in the appliance.
If you do not intend to use the appliance for a considerable
time, remove the batteries.
Batteries contain substances which may pollute the
environment. Please dispose of your old batteries at an
officially assigned place.
How to use the trimmer
Before trimming, always comb your beard and/or
moustache, using a fine comb.
• Beard trimming: with comb attachment
If you have the HQ T301:
- Initially use the position for maximum beard length: set
the adjustable comb to position 4 by pushing the comb
(fig. 6a).
- For most effective cutting, move the trimmer against the
direction of beard growth (fig. 7).
- Choose the required beard length (fig. 8a). There are
4 positions:

If you have the HQ T302:
- Initially use the position for maximum beard length: set
the adjustable comb to position 9, by turning the zoom
ring (fig. 6).
- For most effective cutting, move the trimmer against the
direction of beard growth (fig. 7).
- Choose the required beard length by turning the zoom
ring (fig. 8). There are 9 positions:

• Cutting the unique ‘Stubble look’
Your trimmer is equipped with a unique comb that has a
small slot between the two rows of teeth
(see fig. 9). It enables you to cut the hairs of the beard to
a length of only 1.5 mm. The result is a very short stubble
beard. To obtain the shortest look, the trimmer can be
used without the comb in order to reach a stubble length
of 0.8 mm.
• Cutting single hairs, trimming and shaping of full
beards:
without comb attachment
- Pull the comb attachment from the appliance (fig. 10).
- Ensure that your movements are well-controlled. Touch
the hair lightly with the trimmer (fig. 11).
Cleaning
- Always switch off the appliance before cleaning.
• During use:
- If much hair has accumulated in the comb area, pull off
the comb attachment (fig. 10) and remove the hairs by
shaking and/or blowing (fig. 12).
For the HQ T302: the set beard length position is kept.
For the HQ T301: adjust the beard length position again.
