in minor or moderate injury if proper practices are not taken.

NOTICE! This notice indicates that a specific hazard or unsafe practice will

result in equipment or property damage, but not personal injury.

WORK AREA

1. Operate in a safe work environment. Keep your work area clean, well-lit

and free of distractions. Place lights so you are not working in a shadow.

2. Keep anyone not wearing the appropriate safety equipment away from the

work area.

3. Store unused tools properly in a safe and dry location to prevent rust or

damage. Lock tools away and keep out of the reach of children.

PERSONAL SAFETY

WARNING! Wear personal protective equipment approved by the Canadian

Standards Association (CSA) or American National Standards Institute (ANSI).

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT

1. Always wear impact safety goggles that provide front and side protection

for the eyes. Eye protection equipment should comply with CSA Z94.3-07

or ANSI Z87.1 standards based on the type of work performed.

2. Wear gloves that provide protection based on the work materials or to

reduce the effects of tool vibration.

4 For technical questions call 1-800-665-8685

a. Do not wear gloves when operating a tool that can snag the material

and pull the hand into the tool.

3. Wear protective clothing designed for the work environment and tool.

4. Non-skid footwear is recommended to maintain footing and balance in the

work environment.

5. Wear steel toe footwear or steel toe caps to prevent a foot injury from

falling objects.

PERSONAL PRECAUTIONS

Control the tool, personal movement and the work environment to avoid

personal injury or damage to tool.

1. Do not operate any tool when tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol

or medications.

2. Avoid wearing clothes or jewelry that can become entangled with the

moving parts of a tool. Keep long hair covered or bound.

3. Do not overreach when operating a tool. Proper footing and balance

enables better control in unexpected situations.

SPECIFIC SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

WARNING! DO NOT let comfort or familiarity with product (gained from

repeated use) replace strict adherence to the tool safety rules. If you use

this tool unsafely or incorrectly, you can suffer serious personal injury.

1. Use the correct tool for the job. This tool was designed for a specific function.

Do not modify or alter this tool or use it for an unintended purpose.

2. Do not use the tool if any parts are damage broken or misplaced. Repair or

replace the parts.

3. Inspect the cable regularly. Check for fraying, kinks, broken strands or

distortion. If any of these appear, the cable should be replaced before use.

4. Do not pull cable around or over corners.

5. Do not wrap the cable around any object and hook it back on itself. If

possible, always use an adequate sling, eyebolt or other accessory

attached to the load to be pulled. Always make sure that there is positive

engagement of the hook to the load.

6. Do not exceed the load capacity. Know how much load you are pulling.

7. Never use a ‘cheater’ pipe or other device to lengthen the handle for

additional leverage. This will cause the handle to bend or break thereby

destroying the tool.

8. Do not operate the ratcheting cable puller with less than three wraps of the

cable on the ratchet drum.

9. A cable that breaks under tension can whiplash and inflict death or a

serious injury. Use a winch rope dampener to absorb the cable’s energy

should it break.

10. Do not lift or hoist a load with the cable puller.

UNPACKING

WARNING! Do not operate the tool if any part is missing. Replace the

missing part before operating. Failure to do so could result in a malfunction

OPERATION

Letter references in parenthesis (A) refer to the included Identification Key.

You can set-up the cable puller with either a single or double line. Doubling the line

will decrease the effort needed to move the load, but it will move at half the speed.

1. Hook the cable hook (J) onto the load or pulling device (straps, chains,

etc.) and check that the latch is shut.

a. Double-Line option: Hook the pulley hook (K) onto the load or pulling

device (straps, chains, etc.) instead of the cable hook and check that

the latch is shut.

b. Hook the cable hook onto the anchor point (I) and check that the latch

is shut.

2. Press down on the drive pawl spring (E). The end of the spring will slide to

the slot’s bottom and raise the drive pawls (D).

3. Push the handle forward towards the cable hook (J). Push the stop pawls

(B) away from the ratchet drum’s teeth.

4. Pull out the amount of cable desired, leaving a minimum of three wraps on

the drum. Release the stop pawl and move the handle to the start position.

5. Clip the anchor hook (A) to a sturdy object capable of withstanding the

strain. Make sure the latch is fully shut.

6. Press upward on the drive pawl spring (E) to engage the drive pawls with

the ratchet teeth.

7. Raise the handle to force the pawls into the ratchet teeth and advance the

spool to draw the cable onto the puller’s drum. Lower the arm to reset for

the next pull.

8. Repeat until the load reaches its final position. Check that the cable is

wrapping neatly on the drum. Do not allow it to pile up on one side or to

overlap in the middle.

9. Disengage the pawls (steps 2 and 3) and pull the cable puller to release the

cable tension. Disengage the cable hook and anchor hooks.

10. Recover the remaining cable onto the drum.

CLEANING

Wipe the tool with a clean cloth and periodically blow out all areas with

compressed air. If compressed air is not available, use a brush to remove dust

from areas. Do not use harsh chemicals or solvents to clean the tool.

CABLE CLEANING

A cable will accumulate debris over time. This debris can act as an abrasive on

the cable and damage it.

Spread the cable out on a clean surface and spray it clean with a garden hose.

Scrub the wire strand cable with a wire brush to loosen dirt and rinse.

Commercially available cleaners may also be used. Dry the cable with

compressed air.

LUBRICATION

Inspect and lubricate the tool when required. Only use light oil to lubricate the

tool. Other lubricants may not be suitable and could damage the tool or cause a

malfunction during use.

Bend the cable to spread the strands and apply a penetrating lubricant.

Application can be done with a spray or bath. Allow time for the lubricant to

soak into the cable. Multiple lubricant applications may be required. Wipe off

any excess lubrication once the task is complete.

STORAGE

When not in use for an extended period, apply a thin coat of lubricant to the

steel parts to avoid rust. Remove the lubricant before using the tool again.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Visit a Princess Auto Ltd. location for a solution if the tool does not function

properly or parts are missing. If unable to do so, have a qualified technician

service the tool.
