Adjust a Print Head on a Rimage® 480i Printer
This document explains how to adjust a print head on a 480i printer in a Rimage 2000i autoloader.
Before you begin:
1. Stop or pause all jobs.
2. Power off the external control center (PC).
3. Power off the Rimage 2000i.
4. Disconnect the power cord from the 2000i.
5. Disconnect the power cord from the power outlet.
Required tools:
•Screwdriver
•One disc
1. Access the internal hardware of the 480i printer.
a. Open the printer service door on the top of
the Rimage 2000i.
b. Locate the adjustment knobs (Qty. 2).
Note: The knob on the left adjusts the
black ink cartridge, the knob on the right
adjusts the color ink cartridge.
2. Adjust the print head.
a. Turn the adjustment knob to the left to raise
the print head.
b. Turn the adjustment knob to the right to lower
the print head.
Tip: Place a screwdriver in the center of
the adjustment knob to turn it in the
desired direction.

3. Check the print head adjustment.
a. Place a disc (Qty. 1) on the printer tray.
b. Manually move the printer tray about half way
into the printer.
c. Manually move the ink carriage so that it sits
directly over the center of the disc.
d. From the back of the system, make sure that
the print head on either ink cartridge is flush
with the surface of the disc.
Important! You should be able to move
the printer tray in and out without
scratching the disc on the print head.
4. Run diagnostic test 6 (print test) to check the print head alignment.
Important! Make sure that the Rimage 2000i is not in an error state before running diagnostic test 6. If
the system is in an error state, one or more of the indicator lights on the printer control panel will flash
when the system is powered on. Refer to the Rimage 480i User Guide for more information.
a. Power on the system.
i. Connect the power cord to the back of the Rimage 2000i.
ii. Connect the power cord to the power outlet.
iii. Power on the Rimage 2000i.
iv. Allow the system to fully initialize. This may take up to 5 minutes.
b. Perform printer diagnostic test 6.
i. Press and hold the cancel (X) button.
ii. While holding the cancel (X) button, press the tray button (middle button) 6 times.
iii. Release the tray button.
iv. Release the cancel (X) button. Diagnostic test 6 begins. The printer prints a disc with horizontal
and vertical lines.
5. Make sure that the lines printed on the disc are not blurred or smudged. If you see imperfections on the
printed disc, repeat the procedure in this document to adjust the print head accordingly.
