Safety Notices
Choking Hazard
Proper precautions must be taken when using holders in the CDR Positioning System. To
prevent accidental choking, ensure the holders are correctly positioned and stabilized when
placed inside the patient's mouth. Athough the edges and corners of the Sensor holders and
sheaths have been rounded to increase patient comfort, be aware of any condition that may
cause the patient to gag or choke while the holder is in position.
Do Not Use Holder if Damaged
Sensor holders are carefully inspected before they are shipped to you for normal use. In the
unlikely event of mechanical damage either prior or during shipment, discard the holder
and do not use it.
Always Use Sheaths with Holders
When used correctly, sheaths provide an effective barrier against exposure to bacteria and
infection. Use new Sensor sheaths and holders for each new patient. The sheath is an
integral part of the CDR system and must always be placed over the Sensor before
positioning the holder.

1.Introduction
1.1. Welcome
Your new CDR Positioning System provides maximum flexibility in helping you place
your CDR Sensors precisely where you want them for the best digital images. Rounded
edges and corners around the tabs significantly increase comfort for your patients during
positioning, so you can perform your work efficiently and with greater satisfaction.
1.2. Your CDR Positioning System
Each tab type in the CDR Positioning System is color-coded and area-specific, so you can
always find the right tab for the intraoral areas you intend to X-ray. The CDR Positioning
System contains the following tabs:
• Universal Bite Tab Holders (red)
• Universal Endodontic Tab Holders (green)
• Universal Anterior Periapical Tab Holders (white)
• Universal Bitewing Tab Holders (blue)
• Universal Posterior Periapical Tab Holders (yellow)
The CDR Positioning System is designed to accommodate all CDR Sensors, wired and
wireless. Holders are disposable, single-use items. They can be repositioned several times,
if necessary, for the same patient, but they must be disposed of at the end of that patient's
exam.
1.3. Using Sensor Sheaths
Holders must always be used with Sensor sheaths, which provide an effective deterrent
against cross-contamination.
Sheaths are available for Size 1 and Size 2 wired and wireless Sensors. When placing the
sheath over the Sensor, make sure the Sensor is inserted completely into the sheath. The
sheath should fit snugly over the Sensor with the seams of the sheath lined up along the
edge of the Sensor -- not across the flat imaging area.
If needed, the holder can be lifted from the sheath and repositioned. Removing saliva from
the sheath may be helpful if the holder is used repeatedly during the same exam.
1.4. Using Aiming Rings and Arms
Your CDR Positioning System is compatible with other positioning instruments (aiming
rings and arms) that you have purchased previously from Schick Technologies or from any
of our authorized dealers.

2.Procedures
2.1. Sheath Placement (Wired Sensors)
We have supplied specific use instructions for each holder in this section, but the first steps
are common to all holders and sheaths used with wired Sensors, as shown below.
Table 1. Overview of Sheath and Holder Placement with Wired Sensors
Step Instruction Illustration
1. Select the appropriate size Sheath
for the Wired Sensor
2. Slide the Sensor into the Sheath
3.
Position the Holder on the Sheath
(Actual position will vary with
holder and area to be X-rayed.

paragraphs for specific placement
information)

2.2. Sheath Placement (Wireless Sensors)
We have supplied specific use instructions for each holder in this section, but the first steps
are common to all holders and sheaths used with wireless Sensors, as shown below.
Table 2. Overview of Sheath and Holder Placement with Wireless Sensors
Step Instruction Illustration
1. Select the appropriate size Sheath
for the Wireless Sensor
2.
A. Slide the Sensor into the
Sheath with the adhesive-side
of the white strip and the back
of the Sensor facing you.
B. Remove the protective layer
from the adhesive strip. Fold
the sheath around the Sensor,
making sure the adhesive side
faces the back of the Sensor,
holding it snugly.
C. Tear the excess length from the
Sheath along the perforated
seam.
3.
Position the Holder on the Sheath
(Actual position will vary with
holder and area to be X-rayed.

2.3. Universal Bite Tab Holder
REFERENCE
This tab is color-coded RED. As an example, tab
placement on a CDR wired Sensor sheath is shown below.
Placement on wireless Sensor sheaths is identical.

(Horizontal) (Step 3) Placing Bite Tab on Sheath
(Vertical) (Step 3)
USAGE
1. Place the sheath on the Sensor, following the steps for
either wired (Table 1) or wireless (Table 2) Sensors.
2. Select bite tab and remove protective strip from
adhesive.
3. For horizontal bitewings, place bite tab horizontally
on the sheath in the center of the Sensor. For vertical
bitewings, place bite tab vertically on the sheath in the
center of the Sensor.
4. Position Sensor in patient's mouth. Make other X-ray
head or positioning instrument adjustments as needed.
When ready, take X-ray.
5. Reposition tab if required.
6. Dispose of tab and sheath at the end of this patient's
exam.

2.4. Universal Endodontic Tab Holder
REFERENCE
This tab is color-coded GREEN. As an example, tab
placement on a CDR wired Sensor sheath is shown below.
Placement on wireless Sensor sheaths is identical.

USAGE
1. Place the sheath on the Sensor, following the steps for
either wired (Table 1) or wireless (Table 2) Sensors.
2. Select endodontic tab and remove protective strip
from adhesive.
3. For posterior images, place endodontic tab at the
center of the Sensor. For anterior images, place
endodontic tab at the edge of the Sensor near the
cable.
4. Position Sensor in patient's mouth. Make other X-ray
head or positioning instrument adjustments as needed.
When ready, take X-ray.
5. Reposition tab if required.
6. Dispose of tab and sheath at the end of this patient's
exam.
