Chapter 1

Introduction

1-1 Overview

The SuperServer 5038MA-H24TRF is a MicroCloud server system comprised of

the SC939HA-R1K63BP 3U chassis and 12 A1SA2-2750F serverboards. Please

refer to our web site for information on operating systems that have been certified

for use with the 5038MA-H24TRF (www.supermicro.com).

In addition to the serverboard and chassis, various hardware components have

been included with the 5038MA-H24TRF, as listed below:

• Four chassis fans (FAN-0145L4)

• Twelve backplane add-on cards (AOM-BPN-MC24A-O-P)

• Twelve power distribution board add-on cards (AOM-PDB-MC24-O-P)

• One MicroCloud hot-swap backplane (BPN-SAS-939H)

• One rail kit (MCP-290-41803-0N)

SUPERSERVER 5038MA-H24TRF User's Manual

1-2 Serverboard Features

The 5038MA-H24TRF includes a total of 12 A1SA2-2750F dual processor server-

boards. Each serverboard constitutes two nodes in the system. Below are the main

features of the A1SA2-2750F. (See Figure 1-1 for a block diagram.)

Processors

Each A1SA2-2750F supports two 64-bit, Intel®Atom™ C2750 Tri-Gate SoC

(System-on-a-Chip) processor based on low-power Silvermont microarchitecture

in a BGA 1283 package. Please refer to the serverboard description pages on our

web site for a complete listing of supported processors (www.supermicro.com).

Memory

Each A1SA2-2750F has eight memory slots that can support up to 64 GB of ECC

DDR3-1600 UDIMM (Unbuffered), VLP (Very Low Profile) memory. This equates

to a maximum of 768 GB for the system. Memory modules of the same size and

speed should be used. See Chapter 5 for details.

SATA

A SATA controller integrated into the serverboard provides a four-port SATA 3.0

subsystem. Each sled supports either two or four 2.5” SATA 3.0 (or SSD) hard

drives (one or two drives per node).

Front I/O Ports

The front I/O panel on each serverboard includes one KVM connector, four Gb

Ethernet LAN ports (two for each node), one dedicated IPMI LAN port, a power

button and a node switch (for KVM).

IPMI

IPMI (Intelligent Platform Management Interface) is a hardware-level interface speci-

fication that provides remote access, monitoring and administration for Supermicro

server platforms. IPMI allows server administrators to view a server’s hardware

status remotely, receive an alarm automatically if a failure occurs, and power cycle

a system that is non-responsive. Each node features IPMI 2.0 with KVM over a

dedicated LAN port.
