• TheDVR-USBcontainsa128GBinternalUSBashdriveanda16GBexternalUSBash
drive.
• Thedefaultsengisforallvideorecordingandsnapshotstobesavedtotheexternal
USBashdrive.
• Theexibilityexiststobeabletostoretotheinternal,externalorbothUSBashdrives
simultaneously,dependingonthestrategythatworksbest.
• FilesontheexternalashdrivecaneasilybemovedtoaPCbyremovingitfromthe
DVR-USBandinserngitintoaPC.OncethelesaremovedtoaPCtheycanquicklybe
deletedfromtheashdriveinordertomakeroomforitsusageonceagain.
• Althoughtheinternaldriveisnon-removable,lescanindividuallybetransferred
betweentheinternalandexternaldrivesineitherdirecon.
• Havingbothinternalandexternaldrivesmakesstoringbackupsofvideosorsnapshots
possible.
• Approximately12hoursofhighdenionvideomaybestoredonthe16GBexternal
drive.
• Frequentbackupsarerecommended.
Theoperatorisabletosettodefaultdeviceforstoringvideosandsnapshotsthroughthe
SetupMenuwhichwillbecoveredlater.Whenplayingvideos,viewingsnapshots,moving,
copyingordelengles,theoperatorrstselectsthestoragedevice(eitherinternalor
external).
WARNING:IfusingaashdrivenotsuppliedbyCUES,itmustbeformaedwithaFAT32
lesystem.Manynewerashdrives,especiallythoselargerthan32GB,donotcome
formaedtoFAT32(instead,typically,exFAT).

IfaashdriveofthewrongformatisinsertedintheexternalUSBdrive,theDVR-USBwill
displayanerrormessage‘ExternalStorageError’.Further,iftheoperatorselects‘System
Informaon’fromthe‘Setup’menu,itwillsay‘UnsupportedDevice’fortheexternaldrive.
InordertoformataashdrivetoFAT32,seetheseconinthisappendix‘Formangaash
drive’.NotethatFirmwareVersion1753orlaterisrequiredtoformataashdrivethrough
theDVR-USBmenu.
WARNING:Theexternalashdriveshouldnotberemovedwhilethesystemiswringtoit.
Themessage“Waitunlsafetoremove...”willappearonthedisplaywhenitiswringto
theexternalashaertheoperatorhaspressedthe[STOP/BACK]buon.Donotremovethe
ashunlthismessagehasbeenclearedfromthescreen.
WARNING:Whenrecordingtoaparculardriveortobothdrivessimultaneously,ifeither
drivellsupduringthisprocess,therecordingwillstopandanerrormessage‘Storagefullor
writeerror’willbedisplayed.Thelastfewframesrecordedmayalsobelostinordertofree
upspaceneededforindices.However,thelestoredwillbeviewable.
Operatorsmaynotethatwhenarecordingisbeguntheapproximateamountofrecording
meisdisplayedfortherstseveralseconds.Ifrecordingtoboththeinternalandexternal
DVR-USBashdrivesimultaneously,theapproximaterecordingmeoftheDVR-USBdevice
withtheleastcapacityisshown.
Atanyme,theoperatormaychecktheamountoffreespaceremainingonanyofthedrives
beingusedtostoredata.Seethesecon’Viewingtheamountofspaceremainingontheash
drives’.

Whencopying,movingordelengles,therearetwomodesofperformingtheseacons:
IndividualandGroup.TheIndividualmodeisquickeriftheoperatoronlyneedstoperform
afuncononasinglele.However,ifseverallesneedtobeoperatedon,especiallywhen
theyaretobemovedorcopied,usingthegroupmodemaybebenecial.Thisisbecause
thelistoflescanbeselectedandthentheoperaoniniatedtoactuponthem.Oncethe
operaonbegins,theoperatorcouldworkonsomethingelseandnothavetowaitatthe
computerwhileitperformsabatchofoperaons.
Regardlessofwhethertheoperaonchosenisindividualorgroup,iftheoperatortriesto
copyormovealetoatargetdrivethatalreadyhasaleofthesamename,theoperatorwill
begivenanopportunitytooverwritethetargetle.
Foraindividualcopy,moveordelete,theoperatorcanalternatelychooseto‘cancel’the
operaonpriortoperformingit.
Inthecaseofcopyingormovingagroupofles,ratherthan‘cancel’therewillalternatelybe
oponsto‘overwriteall’andto‘skip’.‘Overwriteall’willmakeitsothatthecurrentandany
subsequentlesfoundtoexistonthetargetdrivewillbeoverwrienwithouttheoperator
havingtodecideseparately.‘Skip’canbeusedtonotoverwritethecurrentlethathasbeen
foundtoexistonthetargetdrive,buttoconnuelookingtoseeifthereareotherlesonthe
targetdrivethatalsomayalreadyexistonthesourcedrive.
