Touch screen assembly replacement

Minitrend QX/Minitrend GR Recorder

This Installation Instruction sheet is intended as a guide for replacing or installing hardware and for setting up

functionality in the recorder. Refer to the User manual for detailed operational requirements.

The recorders are designed for ease of assembly with minimal disturbance to the rest of the unit. If unsure, please

return the unit to your supplier for repair or upgrade.

Removing the case and opening the back of the recorder should only be performed under the following circumstances:

When an item of hardware requires individual replacement.

When an item of hardware is to be retrospectively fitted.

In all other instances it is recommended that the complete unit be returned to an authorised agent or service centre.

For Agency Approved recorders the product needs to be upgraded or repaired by an Authorized Repair facility

WARNING

HAZARDOUS VOLTAGES

Disconnect all power to the recorder before removing the case and attempting any maintenance procedures.

SAFETY TESTS

Upon completion of service procedures detailed in this instruction verify the installation requirements as per the

installation manual.

Failure to comply with these instructions could result in death or serious injury

CAUTION

OBSERVE ANTI-STATIC PRECAUTIONS

Refer to BS EN61340-5-1: 2001. Basic specification. Protection of electrostatic sensitive devices.

Full anti-static precautions MUST be observed when in contact with the electronics of your recorder.

SAVE DATA, SETUPS AND LAYOUTS

Removal of PCBs and battery back-up will result in the loss of all non-volatile data.

Ensure all data and set-ups are saved.

Failure to comply with these instructions may result in product damage.

Before attempting to repair or upgrade a recorder, it is advisable to clear a sufficient work space so components such as

the front panel can be rested on the work surface without getting scratched or damaged.

Panel Mounting

Before a new Touch screen assembly can be fitted the recorder must be removed from the panel. Loosen the mounting

clamp screws, slide the clamp towards the rear of the recorder and remove the clamps and the recorder.

Removing the touch screen assembly

To fit a new Touch screen assembly the case and back panel must be removed. The case and back panel can be

removed as a single assembly. Remove the 2 screws on each side of the case as shown in Fig 1 below

Slide the case and rear panel assembly off the recorder.

To remove the front surround assembly four self tapping screws must be removed. See Fig 3

Once these have been removed the front surround assembly can be carefully drawn forward.

Disconnect the speaker cable from the mother board.

Disconnect the display cable, inverter cable and touch screen cable from the processor board. Take care not to pull on

the cable, only on the connector body.

Note:

The touch screen cable may have an extender cable fitted as shown in fig 4 or may have a longer cable that plugs

directly onto the board.

There are two different types of display connector. One has a black top, one has brown. Check which type is fitted to

your board and follow the relevant instructions.

Type 1

The display cable is unplugged by gently pulling up the top part (the black part as shown below) of the connector (J4)

until the cable is unclamped and can easily be pulled free. See fig 5

Type 2

The display cable is unplugged by gently rotating the brown part of the connector (J4) until the cable is unclamped and

can easily be pulled free. See fig 6

To remove the front bezel and touch screen assembly there are 4 self tapping screws that need to be removed, see Fig

7. Two screws are at the top of the assembly, and two screws are fitted one from each side. When these are removed

the display assembly can be separated.

Take care not to touch the display face or the back of the touch screen, any dirt or finger marks will show when the unit

is re-assembled.

The display assembly can now be lifted out of the Touch screen assembly. Remove the display assembly; ensure it is

placed on something that will prevent it getting scratched or dirty.

Carefully place the display assembly into the new touch screen/bezel assembly, ensure no cables are trapped.

Re-building the recorder

Rebuilding the recorder is the reverse process.

Carefully remove the protective covering from the back of the touch screen.

Before refitting the bezel/touch screen assembly clean any dirt or marks form the back of the touch screen or display.

Use a lint free cloth to clean both parts, do not use any solvents.

Take the display assembly and place it back into the bezel/touch screen assembly. Fit the 4 self tap screws that attach

the two parts.

Offer up the front surround to the unit.

Reconnect the cables. The inverter cable and the speaker cable are polarised and must be fitted the correct way round.

The touch screen connector must be fitted the same way round as it was removed. The cable must not have a twist in it.

It should be fitted so that the top wire as it comes out of the bezel is towards the centre of the board. The new touch

screen will not need an extender cable, so if one was fitted on you original screen this can be discarded.

Depending on the type of display connector fitted to your board select the correct type below and follow the procedure

Type 1

The Display connector is refitted by pulling up the top of the

connector (J4)

Inserting the cable as far as it will go. The blue insulator

should be towards the back of the unit.

Hold the cable in position, ensuring it is fitted straight,

push down the top of the connector to clamp it in place.

Type 2

The Display connector is refitted by rotating the top of the

connector (J4)

Inserting the cable as far as it will go. The blue insulator

should be towards the back of the unit.

Hold the cable in position, ensuring it is fitted straight, push

the top of the connector back down to clamp it in place.

Once all the cables have been reconnected slide the front surround assembly onto the chassis plates and fit the 4 self

tap screws that hold the unit together.

Slide the case back onto the recorder ensuring it is fitted the right way round. The cooling slots should be at the top of

the unit.

Finally fit the four M3 screws that hold the case to the chassis.

Touch Screen Calibration

Calibration of the touch screen may not be required.

Test the touch screen calibration by using the “Touch Test” option on the recorder. This allows you to touch the screen

and check a cursor moves to the correct position. This can be accessed by entering the “Main Menu”, then “Screen”,

then “Touch Test”.

If the touch screen needs recalibrating:

Exit the touch test screen with the “finish” button the press “Calibrate”. This will take you to the calibration screen.

Using the stylus touch the screen at the centre of the cursor. Hold the stylus there until the cursor moves. Continue

touching and holding on the cursor until calibration is complete.

Once calibration is complete, touch the screen once more to exit calibration.

The new calibration can be tested again with “Touch test” if required.
