Important

Read these instructions for use carefully before using the appliance and save them for future

reference.

Check if the voltage indicated on the appliance corresponds to the local mains voltage before

you connect the appliance.

Do not use the appliance if the plug, the cord or the appliance itself is damaged.

If the mains cord is damaged, it must be replaced by Philips, a service centre authorised by

Philips or similarly qualied persons in order to avoid a hazard.

Keep the appliance out of the reach of children.

Never suck up water or any other liquid. Never suck up ammable substances and do not suck

up ashes until they are cold.

Do not point the hose at the eyes or ears nor put it in your mouth when the vacuum cleaner is

switched on and the hose is connected to the vacuum cleaner.

When the vacuum cleaner is used to suck up ne dust, the pores of the dustbag may become

clogged, causing the passage of air through the dustbag to become obstructed.As a result, the

dustbag-full indicator will indicate that the dustbag needs to be replaced, even though the

dustbag is not full at all (see chapter ‘Replacing the dustbag’).

Never use the appliance without the Motor Protection Filter.This could damage the motor and

shorten the life of the appliance.

Only use Philips s-bag `double-layer paper dustbags.

The translucent display panel is made of recyclable polycarbonate (>PC<).

Noise level: Lc = 77 dB [A]



This Philips appliance complies with all standards regarding electromagnetic elds (EMF). If handled

properly and in accordance with the instructions in this instruction manual, the appliance is safe to

use according to scientic evidence available today.



Connecting accessories



To connect the hose, push it rmly into the appliance (‘click’) (Fig. 1).

To disconnect the hose, push the buttons and pull the hose out of the appliance (Fig. 2).



There are two types of coupling systems.This appliance is equipped with one of them.The coupling

systems are shown in the following gures.



1 Connect the tubes to each other and to the handgrip of the hose by inserting the narrow

section into the wider section while turning it a little (Fig. 3).

2 To disconnect the tubes from each other and from the handgrip, pull while turning a little.



1 Connect the tubes to each other and to the handgrip by pressing the spring-loaded lock

button on the handgrip and inserting the handgrip into the tube. Fit the spring-loaded lock

button into the opening in the tube (‘click’) (Fig. 4).

2 To disconnect the tube from the handgrip, press the spring-loaded lock button and pull the

handgrip out of the tube.

Use the same method to connect and disconnect the nozzles.

1 Adjustthetubetothelengthyoundmostcomfortableduringvacuumcleaning(Fig.5).



The Tri-Active nozzle is a multi-purpose nozzle for carpets and hard oors (Fig. 6).

The side brushes catch more dust and dirt at the sides of the nozzle and allow you to clean better

along furniture and other obstacles.

The opening at the front of the nozzle allows you to suck up larger particles (Fig. 7).



1 Push the rocker switch on top of the nozzle with your foot to make the brush strip come

outofthehousing.Atthesametimethewheelwillbeliftedtopreventscratchingandto

increasemanoeuvrability(Fig.8).



1 Push the rocker switch again to make the brush strip disappear into the nozzle housing.

The wheel will be lowered automatically (Fig. 9).



The convertible nozzle can be used on either carpets or hard oors.

Push the rocker switch on top of the convertible nozzle with your foot to make the brush strip

for cleaning hard oors come out of the nozzle housing (Fig. 10).

Push the rocker switch again to make brush strip disappear into the convertible nozzle housing

again. (Fig. 11)



1 Connectthecrevicetool(1),thesmallnozzle(2)orthesmallbrush(3)(specictypesonly)

directly to the handgrip or to the tube (Fig. 12).



The accessory clip can simply be snapped onto the tube (Fig. 13).

The crevice tool and the small nozzle can be snapped onto the clip.



The accessory holder can simply be snapped onto the handgrip (Fig. 14).

The accessories can be stored in the accessory holder by pushing them into the holder.To detach

the accessories, pull them out of the holder.

You can store two accessories at a time in the accessory holder:

Crevice tool and small nozzle (Fig. 15).

Please note the way in which the small nozzle must be placed in the accessory holder.



1 Pull the cord out of the appliance and put the mains plug in the wall socket.

2 Switch the appliance on by pressing the on/off button on top of the appliance with your

foot (Fig. 17).

During vacuum cleaning you can adjust the suction power by means of the knob on top of the

appliance (Fig. 18).

Use maximum suction power for vacuum cleaning very dirty carpets and hard oors.

Use minimum suction power for vacuum cleaning curtains, table carpets, etc.

If you want to pause for a moment, you can park the tube in a convenient position by inserting

the ridge on the nozzle into the parking slot (Fig. 19).



The scent granules have been specially developed for use in your Philips vacuum cleaner. Only use

the Philips s-fresh `scent granules in your vacuum cleaner.

IfthevacuumcleanerisequippedwithActiveFragranceControl,keepitoutofthereachof

children,bothduringandafteruse.Storethevacuumcleanerinalockedcupboardifthereare

small children in the house.

The scent granules are not edible.

Incaseofeyecontact,ushimmediatelywithplentyofwater.



1 Placeyourthumbandindexngeronthesidesofthecartridge.Removethecartridgefrom

the holder by pressing on the disc (Fig. 20).

2 Removethecapofthecartridgebypullingwhileapplyingpressureonthesmallpressing

points (Fig. 21).

3 Open the package at the small opening at the top.

4 Fill the cartridge with the contents of one whole package of scent granules.

5 Close the cartridge by putting the cap back onto it (‘click’).

6 Re-insertthecartridgeintotheholder(‘click’).Itonlytsintotheholderinone

way (Fig. 22).

Replace the granules when the cartridge no longer emits any fragrance.



You can set the fragrance level by turning the cartridge forwards (maximum emission) and

backwards (minimum emission) (Fig. 23).

When you store the vacuum cleaner or don’t want any fragrance to be emitted, close the

cartridge by turning it backwards until the openings of the cartridge are no longer visible.

Storage

1 Switchtheapplianceoffandremovethemainsplugfromthewallsocket.

2 Rewindthemainscordbypressingthecordrewindbutton(Fig.24).

3 You can put the appliance in upright position and attach the nozzle to the appliance by

inserting the ridge on the nozzle into the slot (Fig. 25).

4 AlwaysputtheTri-Activenozzleinthecarpetsettingwhenyoustoreitandpreventtheside

brushes from becoming bent (Fig. 8).



Always unplug the appliance before replacing the dustbag.

Replace the dustbag as soon as the dustbag-full indicator has changed colour permanently, i.e.

even when the nozzle is not placed on the oor (Fig. 26).

2 Lift the dustbag holder out of the appliance (Fig. 28).

Make sure you hold the dustbag upright when lifting it out of the appliance.

3 Removethefulldustbagfromtheholderbypullingatthecardboardtag(Fig.29).

When you do this, the dustbag will be sealed automatically.

4 Slidethecardboardfrontofthenewdustbagintothetwogroovesofthedustbagholderas

far as possible. (Fig. 30)

5 Re-insertthedustbagholderintothevacuumcleaner(Fig.31).

You cannot close the cover if no dustbag has been inserted.



Alwaysunplugtheappliancebeforereplacingthelters.

Motor Protection Filter

Clean the Permanent Motor Protection Filter every time you replace the dustbag.

1 Removethedustbagholderwiththedustbag(Fig.28).

2 TaketheMotorProtectionFilterholderoutoftheapplianceandcleanthelterbyshakingit

overadustbin(Fig.32).

3 Putthecleanlterbackintothelterholder.Fitthetwolugsofthelterholderbehindthe

ridgeatthebottomtoensurethatittsproperlyatthetopandpressthelterholderhome

(‘click’) (Fig. 33).

4 Place the dustbag holder with the dustbag back into the appliance.



The Super Clean Air Filter located in the back of the appliance lters a large part of the smaller

particles from the exhaust air by means of its electrostatically charged bres.

Replace the Super Clean Air Filter every six months.

1 Opentheltergrille(Fig.34).

2 Removetheoldlter(Fig.35).

3 Insertthenewlterintotheappliance.

4 Closetheltergrilleandpushthebottomcornersuntiltheysnaphome(Fig.36).



Instead of with the Super Clean Air Filter, this appliance can also be equipped with the special Super

Clean Air HEPA Filter. This lter is able to remove 99.5% of all particles down to 0.0003 mm in size

from the outlet air.This not only includes normal house dust, but also harmful microscopic vermin

such as house dust mites and their excrements, which are well-known causes of respiratory allergies.

Replace the Super Clean Air HEPA Filter every six months.

The Super Clean Air HEPA Filter can be replaced in the same way as the Super Clean Air Filter.



Ordering dustbags

Philips Classic s-bag ` paper dustbags are available under type number FC8021.

Philips Clinic s-bag ` high ltration dustbags are available under type number FC8022.

Philips Anti-odour s-bag `paper dustbags are available under type number FC8023.

Philips Long Performance s-bag `dustbags for extra long cleaning performance are available

under type number FC8024.

Ordering lters

Super Clean Air Filters are available under type number FC8030.

Super Clean Air HEPA Filters are available under type number FC8031.

Ordering scent granules

Replacement kits with 4 packages of scent granules are available under type number FC8025.



Do not throw the appliance away with the normal household waste at the end of its life, but

hand it in at an ofcial collection point for recycling. By doing this you will help to preserve the

environment (Fig. 37).



If necessary, replace the dustbag.

Check if the lters need to be replaced.

Check if the suction power knob is in maximum position.

Check if the nozzle, tube or hose is blocked up.

To remove the obstruction, disconnect the blocked-up item and connect it (as far as possible)

the other way around. Switch the vacuum cleaner on to force the air through the blocked-up

item in opposite direction (Fig. 38).
