Getting the best from your new cleaner...

If your cleaner is not picking up as well as it should, please check

Filters

Whenever the dust canister is emptied, check the filters and clean if

necessary.

Blockages

If performance is reduced and the dust canister and filters are clean,

check the nozzle, tubes and hose for blockages.

Belt

Check and replace damaged or broken belt. See pages 6 and 7 for further

information.

Safety cut-out

If the airflow is blocked or the filters are not regularly cleaned, the safety

cut-out feature may be activated. Allow 60 minutes for the thermostat to

reset before switching the appliance back on. See page 7 for further

instructions.

ELECTRICAL

REQUIREMENTS

Check that the voltage on

the rating plate of your

appliance corresponds with

your house electricity

supply which must be A.C.

(Alternating Current).

If the socket outlets in your

home are not suitable for

the plug supplied with this

appliance the plug should

be removed and the

appropriate one fitted.

If you cut off the plug and

let go of the cable, it will

rewind into the machine,

therefore you must pull out

a length of cable and

secure it before cutting the

plug off and re-fitting a new

one.

WARNING: A damaged

or severed mains cable

fitted with a plug should

never be connected to

the mains supply. It must

be destroyed, as a

damaged cable becomes

hazardous if connected

to a power socket.

Should the fuse in the 13

amp plug require changing,

a 13 amp BS1362 fuse

must be fitted.

TOOLS AND

ACCESSORIES

Follow steps 1-4of ‘Using in

upright mode’ but set the carpet

height adjustment knob to the

TOOLS setting.

Remove the hose connector Í

from the rear of the cleaner. Lift

the hose ·from the top handle

hook. Insert the hose clip Ò

into the hose clip slot Ë.

• Push the required attachment

firmly onto the end of the hose.

• If additional length is required,

attach one or both extension

tubes Â.

Switch on „.

• IMPORTANT: Always fix the

hose clip Òto the main body

slot Ëwhen using the hose and

tools.

•

Never over extend the hose such

that the cleaner is pulled over.

IMPORTANT: Turning the cleaner

sideways helps prevent the

cleaner being pulled along by

the stretch hose.

Turbo nozzle Ú

(certain models only)

This nozzle is suitable for

cleaning and rejuvenating cut

pile carpets and is ideal for

picking up stubborn dirt and pet

and human hairs.

Cleaning the turbo

nozzle Ú

(certain models only)

The turbo nozzle should be

regularly cleaned and any hairs

or fibres wrapped around the

brush bar removed to maintain

optimum performance.

Stair Ûand Hair Ù

tool (certain models only)

This tool is suitable for cleaning

the stairs, and when the

additional attachment is added,

it is ideal for picking up human

and pet hair.

Other accessories

OPERATING THE

APPLIANCE

ASSEMBLY

WARNING: Do not plug in the

cleaner until it is assembled.

1Carefully unpack all of the

components.

2Lift the cleaner body to the

upright position.

3Remove the two screws that are

already attached to the body.

4From the rear of the cleaner,

align the handle with the groove

and slide into the body A. If

necessary, use thumb and finger

pressure to slide the handle into

position.

5Fasten the handle with the two

screws A.

Floor nozzle

height adjustment B

Before using the cleaner, the

floor nozzle height ﬁ must be

set to the correct height.

Choose the setting which most

closely matches your floor

surface.

• Use the TOOLS setting when

using the tools.

NOTE: The height adjustment

only comes into effect when the

handle is released by the handle

release pedal È.

Switching on

Plug the appliance into the

mains supply.

Ensure that the Eco Switch ⁄is

set to the required setting before

switching the cleaner on. Push

the On/Off switch „to start the

motor.

Controlling suction

power

The suction power can be

varied to suit the surface being

cleaned, by using the Eco

Switch ⁄ C.

Using in upright mode

1Place the cleaner in its upright

position.

2Set the carpet height

adjustment knob ﬁ to the

desired position.

3Release the mains cable by

revolving the quick release cleat

‚half-a-turn and extend the

cable fully.

4Plug the cable into the mains

socket.

5Step on the handle release

pedal È to release the handle

to the desired position.

6Press the On/Off switch to the

‘on’ position.

IMPORTANT: To prevent

damage to carpets, never leave

the cleaner switched on in one

place for an extended period.

• Never have the brushes set too

low such that the cleaner is hard

to push.

Switching off

Switch off the appliance and

remove the plug from the mains

supply and wind the cord

around the storage cleats ‚.

MAINTENANCE

DUST CANISTER

Emptying the dust

canister

To obtain the best results from

your cleaner, empty the dust

canister Ó regularly, otherwise

the airflow and cleaning power

will be reduced.

1Remove the front cover ‹ by

lifting the cover release lever ¤

2Lift-up the dust canister release

Îand pull the canister away

from the main body.

3Take the canister to the dustbin.

4Turn the lid Ï quarter-of-a-turn

anti-clockwise to unlock, lift off

the lid with pleated filter Ì, put

to one side E.

5Lift out the central mesh filter Ô

from the dust canister Ó F.

Brush clean if necessary.

6Empty out the dust canister Ó.

7Re-fit the central mesh filter.

8Shake the pleated filter Ì to

remove all dust.

9Re-fit pleated filter with lid into

the dust canister by lining up

the two arrows and turning the

lid quarter-of-a-turn clockwise

to lock.

10 Re-fit dust canister into cleaner

and push to lock into position.

11 Re-fit the front cover.

FILTERS

Cleaning the canister

filter

To maintain suction, the

pleated filter must be shaken

clean each time the dust

canister is emptied. Failure to

clean the filter will reduce suction

and could damage the motor if

used for a prolonged period. This

may invalidate the guarantee. If

the filters become damaged,

they must be replaced.

To remove it from the dust

canister lid, turn the filter quarter-

of-a-turn anti-clockwise G.

To thoroughly clean it, wash it

regularly, but it must be left to

thoroughly air dry before

re-use.

IMPORTANT: Do not wash filters

with detergents.

IMPORTANT: Do not use heated

appliances to dry filters.

Changing/cleaning

the motor protection

filter

The motor protection filter must

be checked and, if necessary,

cleaned every time the dust

canister is emptied.

The motor protection filter ıis

located underneath the dust

canister H.

1Remove the dust canister.

2Lift out the filter and shake over

a dustbin.

3To clean, shake or brush the

filter over a dustbin. The filter

may also be washed but must

be left to thoroughly air dry

before re-use.

IMPORTANT: Do not wash filters

with detergents.

IMPORTANT: Do not use heated

appliances to dry filters.

4Replace the filter.

Changing/cleaning

the exhaust filter

The exhaust filter must be

checked and, if necessary,

cleaned every time the dust

canister is emptied.

The exhaust filter is located

below the dust canister

compartment.

1Remove the front cover ‹.

2Remove the exhaust filter ˆby

pulling forward at the top and

lifting it away I.

3Take the filter out of the cage

and shake vigorously over a

dustbin.

4To clean, shake or brush the

filter over a dustbin. The filter

may also be washed but must

be left to thoroughly air dry

before re-use.

IMPORTANT: Do not wash filters

with detergents.

IMPORTANT: Do not use heated

appliances to dry filters.

4Replace the filter and the front

cover.

CHANGING THE BELT

If the brush bar stops rotating, it

is likely that the drive belt has

snapped (usually because the

brush has been stalled). A spare

belt is supplied. Replacement

belts can also be obtained from

Morphy Richards by calling the

helpline number at the base of

the page.

Accessing the floor

nozzle

1Disconnect the cleaner from the

mains supply.

Put the switch to the ‘off’ position.

3Remove the front cover ‹ and

the dust canister.

4Press the handle release pedal

È and place the cleaner face

down, in a flat position on a soft

surface (eg. carpet).

5Using a flat bladed

screwdriver or a coin,

rotate the three cover

fixings, a quarter-of-a-turn,

from lock to unlock J.

6Lift the base cover ˜from

the rear fixing area first, the

cover will rotate forward.

Unhook the cover from the

front edge and remove.

Removing brush

bar & belt

7Lift the metal belt guard ¯

out of the floor nozzle and

put it safely to one side K.

8Slide the belt past the end

of the motor drive shaft ˘.

If the belt has broken,

remove all pieces and clean

the drive shaft.

9Lift the rotating brush

equally at both ends to

slide it free of the floor

nozzle L.

Holding the ends of the

brush, check it rotates

freely or not, if not, it must

be replaced. Call our

Helpline for replacement

parts or belts.

Re-fitting brush

bar & belt

10 Hook the belt over the

drive shaft (the belt must

be slid sideways past the

end of the drive shaft).

NOTE: The belt guard must

have been removed first,

see point 7 above.

11 Refit the belt guard,

ensuring it is correctly

located. Press down fully.

12 Pass the rotary brush

through the belt, ensuring

the correct end is located

against the belt M.

13 Pull the brush forward

(against the pull of the belt)

and locate the square ends

of the brush into location

slots in the floor nozzle M.

14 Rotate the brush by hand

to ensure the belt is running

in the centre of its location

on the brush.

Refitting the floor

nozzle base cover

15 Hook the base cover ˜

into the front of the floor

nozzle, ensuring all four

hooks are engaged N.

16 Rotating the cover

downwards and rearwards,

slowly close the cover.

17 Tighten the three fixings,

using a screwdriver to turn

the fixings a quarter-of-a-

turn to the lock position J.

NOTE: If the cover will not

fully close or fixings will not

lock, lift the cover slightly

and rotate the fixings until

they are in the correct

position for closure.

18 Return the cleaner to the

upright position, re-fit the

dust canister and front

cover. Connect to the

mains supply. Switch on to

test.

SAFETY CUT-OUT

If the cleaner overheats, a

motor protection thermostat

will automatically switch the

motor off. If this happens,

switch the cleaner off,

unplug from the power

supply and leave the cleaner

to cool for at least 60

minutes. Check the airways

for blockages, empty the

dust canister and clean the

filters before restarting.

factory. In the unlikely event of any

appliance proving to be faulty within

28 days of purchase, it should be

returned to the place of purchase

for it to be replaced.

If the fault develops after 28 days

product, or write to Morphy

You may be asked to return a copy

of proof of purchase.

Subject to the exclusions set out

below (see Exclusions), the faulty

appliance will then be repaired or

replaced and dispatched usually

within 7 working days of receipt.

If you suspect a fault, follow the

simple checks detailed below

before retrying the appliance or

calling the helpline.

• Check the filters for blockages.

• Check the tools / tubes for

blockages.

• Check the plug is firmly in the

socket.

• Check the socket is working by

trying another appliance.

• Check the fuse in the plug.

If, for any reason, this item is

replaced during the 1 year

guarantee period, the guarantee on

the new item will be calculated from

original purchase date. Therefore it

is vital to retain your original till

receipt or invoice to indicate the

date of initial purchase.

To qualify for the 1 year guarantee,

the appliance must have been used

according to the instructions

supplied.

EXCLUSIONS

Morphy Richards shall not be liable

to replace or repair the goods under

the terms of the guarantee where:

1 The fault has been caused or is

attributable to accidental use,

misuse, negligent use or used

contrary to the manufacturer’s

recommendations or where the fault

has been caused by power surges

or damage caused in transit.

2 The appliance has been used on a

voltage supply other than that

stamped on the products.

3 Repairs have been attempted by

persons other than our service staff

(or authorised dealer).

4 The appliance has been used for

hire purposes or non domestic use.

5 The appliance is second hand.

6 Morphy Richards are not liable to

carry out any type of servicing

work, under the guarantee.

7 The guarantee excludes

consumables such as belts and

some filters.

out above and does not cover any

claims for consequential loss or

not affect your statutory rights as a
