Caution

ThisPhilipsappliancecomplieswithallapplicablestandardsand
regulationsregardingexposuretoelectromagneticelds.
Preparing for use
Charging the appliance
Chargetheapplianceforatleast16hoursbeforeyouuseitforthersttime.
Tip: If you are not going to use the appliance for a longer period of
time, remove the adapter from the wall socket to save energy.
1 Insert the small plug into the charging socket on the appliance.
Insert the adapter into the wall socket (Fig. 2).
,The charging light goes on to indicate that the appliance
is charging (Fig. 3).
Note:The charging light stays on as long as the adapter is in the wall socket.
It does not give any information about the charge level of the built-in
rechargeable batteries.
Note:To optimise the lifetime of the rechargeable batteries, periodically
discharge them completely by letting the appliance run until it stops and then
recharge them fully again.

Using the appliance
1 Push the on/off slide forwards to switch on the appliance (Fig. 4).
2 Push the on/off slide backwards to switch off the appliance (Fig. 5).
Accessories
Theappliancecomeswithabrushtooltocleandelicatesurfaces.
1 Attach the brush tool to the nozzle of the appliance (Fig. 6).
Cleaning
Always remove the adapter from the wall socket before you clean
the appliance.
1 Clean the appliance with a damp cloth.
Emptying the dust compartment
Makesureyouemptythedustcompartmentandcleanthelters
regularly.
1 Hold the appliance over a dustbin and press the dust compartment
release button (Fig. 7).
2 Removethelterunitfromthedustcompartment(Fig.8).
3 Empty the dust compartment with your free hand.
4 Cleantheouterlterandtheinnerlterwithabrush.
Note: To clean the inner lter, you can remove the outer lter from the lter
holder by turning it anticlockwise.
Note: If the outer and the inner lter are very dirty, you can clean them with
a normal vacuum cleaner.
Note: If necessary, you can clean the outer lter and the inner lter in cold or
lukewarm water.

5 Reattachtheouterltertothelterholderandputthelter
holder back into the dust compartment. Make sure you insert the
lterholderinthecorrectway(Fig.9).
Neverusethevacuumcleanerifthelterunitisstillwet.
Replacement
Replacetheinnerlterifitcannolongerbecleanedproperly
(usuallyafterithasbeencleanedabout50times).
AlwaysreplacetheinnerlterwithanoriginalPhilipsFC8038innerlter.
1 Removethelterunitfromthedustcompartment(Fig.8).
2 Turntheouterlteranticlockwise(1)andremoveitfromthe
holder (2) (Fig. 10).
3 Gentlyturntheinnerlteranticlockwise(1)andremoveit
from the holder (2) (Fig. 11).
4 Placeanewlterontheholder(1)andturnthelterclockwise(2)
to attach it to the holder (Fig. 12).
5 Pushthetipoftheinnerlterinwards(Fig.13).
6 Placetheouterlterontheholder(1)andturnthelterclockwise
(2) to attach it to the holder (Fig. 14).

Environment
- Donotthrowawaytheappliancewiththenormalhouseholdwaste
attheendofitslife,buthanditinatanofcialcollectionpointfor
recycling.Bydoingthis,youhelptopreservethe
environment(Fig.15).
- Thebuilt-inrechargeablebatteriescontainsubstancesthatmay
pollutetheenvironment.Alwaysremovethebatteriesbeforeyou
discardandhandintheapplianceatanofcialcollectionpoint.
Disposeofthebatteriesatanofcialcollectionpointforbatteries.If
youhavetroubleremovingthebatteries,youcanalsotakethe
appliancetoaPhilipsservicecentre.Thestaffofthiscentrewill
removethebatteriesforyouandwilldisposeoftheminan
environmentallysafeway.
Removing the rechargeable batteries
Only remove the rechargeable batteries if they are completely empty.
Rechargeable batteries may explode when exposed to high
temperaturesorre.
Removethebatteriesinthefollowingway:
1 Let the appliance run until it stops. Undo the screws and open the
appliance (Fig. 16).
2 Cut the connecting wires one by one and remove the
batteries (Fig. 17).
