Caution: Read Before Operating

Wood Dust is Highly Flammable!

Always locate dust bin in a safe area, preferably outdoors. Keep a 10’ distance from dust bin when

sander is in operation.

Static electricity can ignite a re or injure personnel.

Wood dust can are up if ignited.

Make sure system is plugged into a grounded circuit.

Never introduce sparks or ame into the system.

- Drive down nail heads to prevent sparks.

- Never sand ferrous materials.

This collector is designed for wood waste ONLY.

Never use collector for materials other than wood products.

Store wood waste in a safe area outside.

Don’t leave jobsite without properly disposing of waste to a safe area. Smoldering dust can ignite later.

Clean debris off oor before sanding. Debris can clog system.

Clean both lter cartridges at regular intervals. Vacuum out the lter pleats from the inside of the lter

or blow off from the outside. See cleaning procedure on pg. 6.

Do not overll Dust Bin. Check regularly.

Do not operate collector in ammable atmosphere. (i.e. - Finish fumes)

Caution: Fine dust is the most hazardous to breathe and very ammable.

Wood Dust Can Be Hazardous to Your Health!

The Federal government has declared that wood dust is a known human carcinogen. Different woods also have

different levels of irritation, some worse than others, especially with the increased use of exotic woods in ooring.

What you also may not know is that before 1978, lead was used in many varnishes. When you sand this varnish,

the dust concentrates the lead and makes the wood dust even more toxic. Asbestos exposure can occur when you

are dealing with old adhesives and vinyl tiles.

The best way to deal with this toxic cloud is to collect the wood dust at the source, for you and your customers

safety. Without proper dust collection, workers are exposed on every job and customers are exposed until all dust is

nally cleaned up. Not a good situation for either party.

Always follow all Federal,

State and Local

guidelines and codes.

Collect Dust at the Source!

Congratulations!

You have purchased a state-of-the-art Oneida Vortex DCS Dust Containment

System for oor sanding machines. In order to facilitate your transition to

using our system, makesure all people using the system read the Owner’s

Manual. The information provided is very important to the day-to-day opera-

tion of the dust containment system.

Keep an eye on the Clear Cone during operation. Material should be

swirling and exiting the cone. If material is accumulating in the cone, shut-

down the sander. Remove the hose from the cyclone waste outlet. Make

sure the vacuum is on and all hoses are connected. Remove the Clear

Cone and dump out accumulated dust. Check lter and clean if neces-

sary. Reassemble and you’re ready to sand.

Make sure Stack Pipe Clamp is tightened down so there are no leaks. If it

is too loose you you will see dust around the clamp on the Stack.

When rotating the cyclone on the Sander, turn Sander off, loosen clamp,

rotate and tighten. Rotating while Sander is on will cause a puff of dust to

escape at the clamp.

Filters - All HEPA Filtration

Filters must be cleaned with compressed air after or before every job. This maintenance

will ensure your dust collector is running efciently. Follow lter cleaning instructions on

pg, 3.

Oneida’s lters are extremely durable and reusable. Their lifespan is normally between 40 - 100 jobs. Regular and thorough

cleaning with compressed air can extend lter life. All lters are a high efciency, spun-bonded, polyester lter media with

a teon-like coating to aid cleaning. These lters have been 3rd party tested to be 99.9% efcient in ltering 0.2 - 2 micron

dust. 1 micron = 0.0000394 inch.

Filter cleaners allow the operator to go a longer period of time between cleaning the lters

with compressed air. Whenever the machine is shut down, changing paper, taking a

break, etc., give the crank a few turns at a few different heights to drop material out of the

lter.

Filters can be washed out with water after being blown out. They should be completely

dry before re-installing.

Filter Cleaner is a hand-operated lter cleaning mecha-

nism that is attached to the lter. When turned, the crank

rotates a teon-like apper inside the lter that hits the

pleats and drops material down to the bottom of the

cyclone. This is a quick way to maintain your lters on the

job and must be done when the Sander is off. It does not

take the place of cleaning lters with compressed air.

OAS Vortex DCS Owner’s Manual O.A.S. 2013

Hoses Caution: Wood dust and air moving through a plastic hose creates static electricity. All hoses provided by

OAS are static dissipating. Use only the hoses provided. Do NOT use hose that is not static dissipating.

Shock hazard or ignition of ammable mixture may result!

Normal Utility Hose:

- A tough elastomer urethane, static dissipating hose reinforced with a vinyl coated spring steel

wire helix and two molded cuffs.

- Available in 1” to 1.5” inner diameters in 1/4” increments. Sold in lengths of 35’.

- Can effectively be cut and attached with expanding or reducing cuff.

Normal Utility Stretch Hose:

- A vinyl and urethane static dissipating hose with a vinyl coated wire helix that has a 4:1 stretch

ratio and comes with two molded cuffs. Hose retracts with movement of sander.

- A 20’ compressed hose expands to 80’. Only available in 20’ - 80’ lengths.

- This hose can NOT be effectively cut and attached with a new cuff.

Hoses will take on the color of the wood sanded due to a light coating of dust on the inside of the hose.

If you experience a clog in the hose, reverse the ow of air through the hose by hooking the other end up to the vacuum. If

this doesn’t work, blow one end out with compressed air outside. If it still persists, work the clogged dust from the outside

with your hands or bang gently on the ground with the vacuum on.

Hoses should be periodically inspected for leaks in the length and at the end cuffs.

Very aggressive sanding. Drum sanding with coarse grit. Soft woods or

stripping varnish.

- Pine & Fur - 1 1/2” dia. hose.

Clarke edgers need 1 1/4” or 1 1/2” hose for proper dust collection.

Smaller hoses will clog with debris.

*Note: Pull Flex Hose out of coiled positions avoiding tight and unnecessary loops and bends. Material will ow more easily.

*Note: Use only the amount of hose that is necessary to do the job. Extended lengths will impair waste pick-up at cyclone. Shorter lengths

will improve waste removal at cyclone, especially for aggressive sanding.
